This performance is from a show at Garcia's, a club dedicated to Jerry Garcia, which is part of the Capital Theater in Portchester, NY. The group I play in is HalfStep, a Grateful Dead Tribute band, based in the Northeast. For the past couple years I had been playing a Modulus Q5 and Q6, but I am digging the Alembic "sound" more so than anything I have used to date. I may be trading this for a 4-string though, either Mark King or Series I or II. May want to go back completely to 4-string. Thank you for listening. Hope you enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5umSQRwb5Y https://www.facebook.com/pages/HALF-STEP-Grateful-Dead-Tribute/176509502870 |

Craig, Really nice Alembic sound. The low end on that bass is huge, but, clear. Was that a soundboard mix married to the video? The video was cool, the mix was full and the treatment of Peggy-O was quite tasty... |

Hey Ken...thank for the kind words man. Yes indeed the soundboard mix is married to the video. |

That sounded real nice, Craig. Enjoyed the video, too. You've got a real good bass sound with that Alembic. Anything special for gear? Rob |

Hey Rob, thank you man. That particular gig I was using an Eden WT550B head with an Acme Low B-2 Series III Cab. For larger gigs I use an Eden WT800C Head with a Fearless 215 Cab. |

That was very nice. Thanks for sharing. Well played, and the tone was really nice. You don't know me from Adam, but I highly encourage you to go 4 string! :-) And obviously back you on your decision to go Alembic over Modulus. To me, Phil's tone was so beautiful when he was using Alembic stuff.... his tone never grabbed me after his switch to Modulus.... I know lots of people love Modulus, so there has to be something to it :-) Anyway, really tasty playing. Are those flat wound strings? |

Thanks for the kind words and advice Keith. The strings are actually D'Addario Half Rounds. I definitely will be making the switch to the 4-string, I hope someone on the Alembic forum will be interested in some sort of trade, perhaps a straight out purchase. I am not a big fan of 19mm spacing. Having played a Modulus for 3 years I got used to and liked the 17mm. I totally agree about the Alembic era tone. I mean Phil is Phil no matter what he plays, but man I dig the mid to late 70's stuff. The Modified Guild Starfire was killer as well. |

Hey Craig, I know what you mean about liking the 17mm spacing. My "daily driver" for a few years now has been a Modulus Q6 in 35" scale. I've played 19mm spacing for years, so it's not an issue switching back and forth. But, like you, I do prefer 17mm......... Rob |

Thank you so much Dave, that means alot coming from you man. I listened to your demo recordings and I am blown away by your playing and musicianship. Rob, I had an awesome Q6 as well with a Chechen fingerboard. It was giving me some problems though, I have arthritis in my left pinky from a break from when I was 17 yrs old, another reason I am switching back to a 4-string, I am thinking a medium scale might also help with the hand issue. |

Very nice! Excellent version, excellent video, great playing all around. The singer sounds like Randy Newman; very interesting hearing that on this song (I liked it a lot). But tell your soundman that authenticity doesn't have to extend to copying Healy's burying of the rhythm guitar. Peter |
