Dear Mika, All I have is the number you gave me when I was born. I thought I went to a nice owner but he didn't take good care of me and I ended up in pawnshop in northern Ontario. Last Saturday - I saw the light again after being encased for more than 18 months in the dark. I felt the power again but I didnt sound good at all..in fact I thought this new guy would just put me back. I was lonely. But hey - the good news is that he didnt - and before I knew it - I was taking a long care ride back to his house... I was feeling good... He took me out of that skunky case, pulled my old strings off, cleaned me and polished my frets, oiled my fret board and wow - I was feeling like new when he tuned me up again with new strings... It was the best day of my life since I left home... Well - now if I could only remember how I was born ??? I have a Wenge and maple veneered top, a 5 laminated maple neck, mahogany body and funky pick ups! My bridge is not nice at all and the saddle is not nice either - I'll want to get new ones I think... Could you tell me more about who I am ? | ||

Nice story Denis. She was built in 1995 - not sure about much else. Be patient and someone will get you the whole run down on that beauty. Speaking of beauty - we always like to see pictures here. | ||

Looks to be a Wenge top (based on the pores in the grain- can't think of another top wood with those distinctive 'valleys'). If it's standard construction (looks like it is), it's a mahogany body, maple laminate and then Wenge. The neck will be maple with walnut veneers. There are some really good threads on cleaning the tailpiece and bridge in the FAQ section- have a read of those. Taking apart and cleaning the bridge is a pretty cool experience and once you've taken apart the bridge and see how amazingly simple, yet perfectly designed the bridge is, your appreciation for this bass will grow even more.  Before I took it home... Dusty and mouldy,,,, I do love it and even with a poor condition, i feel lucky to have found it and drove 800 miles to have it. It'll be sooooo great. I put on Ernie Ball Cobalt 45-130's They sound crisp and punchy, clear, funky....it seems to suit her sooo well... | ||

mica...can you advise what were the standard set up heights for my Epic? The action is really high and I want to take it for a tune up but would appreciate having the factory settings before so that my luthier has a starting point please. Thanks so much | ||

I did the setup on my 96´Epic 5 myself, and it was fairly high when I got it too. I can assure you they CAN get quite low and easy to play, but it is not an easy task. Remember there are TWO truss rods (at least on my fiver there are), and you have also to mind the height at the nut (which is wonderfully adjustable) as well as in the bridge. In the end, mine ended up quite sweet (although I couldn´t get the bridge any lower on the treble side, mine is stuck to the bottom -touching the wood under it- on the treble side, and I´d still would like it to go a little further down... a friend says I like the strings to get UNDER the frets ;) ). But quite nice to play nonetheless. | ||
