Here's a close up. It's interesting that the pickups don't say "Alembic" on them, though they are marked "5xy" underneath. Is this a standard Alembic pickup for this model? (Message edited by twocan on March 30, 2014) |

Looks more like figured Maple with some burl in the second picture, the pickups are MXY 5's (MXY is standard for the Essence, same pickups as AXY only in smaller housing) Btw: This bass was born in May-June of '91 |

Hi Steve, At the time your Essence was made... they were all the same! Here's what I found in the file for your bass: top: Flame Maple accent: Walnut pinstripe body: Maple neck: 3-piece Maple scale: 34" long fingerboard: Ebony inlays: none pickups: MXY electronics: Essence originally made for: Dan's Music & Sound, TX birthday: June 12, 1991 The pickups likely had the hot stamped name wear off, either partially or completely. A previous owner may have also sanded it off it was partially worn. Also there is an Elan marching around with the 6570 serial number as well - sometimes we make a duplicate on accident! I'm going to add that I think the top may be Eastern Maple, but it's not recorded - just my observation. |
