Hi All. I have an Epic 5 string. I am the original owner.I have had it 20 years :-) Very happy with it. I have noticed in the last 2 or 3 gigs that the sound cuts out. When it does it lasts no more than maybe a second. Noticed it more this weekend during a gig. I also noticed that when I did use my volume knob that it made a slight crackling noise and cut out. I also tried tapping it lightly. Cut out again. As mentioned it doesnt last very long. I do notice a decrease and increase in volume here and there while playing. Anyone ever have this problem. I replace my battery regularly. Thanks, Joe

Welcome, Joe.

I'm no expert, but the crackling pot sounds like you need to do the 'exercise pot' maneuver. If you rotate the pot 50ish times through the entire range (off to full on) in a quick fashion, that will often work out any crackles in the sealed pots. Also- have you checked to make sure that the washer and nut on the inside of the electronics cavity is snug? After 20 years, the wood compresses a bit and it's not unusual to have that nut loosen just a bit. If that happens, the volume pot can spin a bit- possibly causing something to hit the shielding and shorting out.

Those are just my guesses… I'm sure some more informed opinions will drop in before long. :-)

Thanks tbrannon. I will open her up and check the washer and nut.
