Val/Mica, Could you give me the build history on an Essence, SN 91K6904? I'm bidding on it on Ebay. Yeah, I know, I already have one, but I don't have anything at all to play in Baghdad. Gotta have an Alembic here, you know? Establish the presence and all that! Thanks, Alan | ||

Sweet addition, Alan. Here's what I found out about your bass: 91K6904 KLB4 top: Flame Maple accent: Walnut pinstripe body: Maple neck: Maple fingerboard: Ebony pickups: MXY4 controls: pan, volume, filter originally mde for: Guitar Center, Burbank, IL birthday: November 26, 1991 It was sent back twice to the factory. First, to get the neck adjusted (I guess the store didn't feel comfortable doing it). Second, was to get painted red. Originally, the color was "Flash Pink" a really really bright neon pink. We made a bunch of Flash Pink and Green Glow Essences for Guitar Center in 1991. At the time, they assured us that it was what the stores wanted to sell. After we delivered half of them and not one warranty card came back to us, we got concerned and asked if we could change the remaining basses on order to more conventional colors. They wanted them all the way they were originally ordered and they took a good long time to move out the door. Finally, about 3 years later, a few of the pinks and greens were still in the chain. They asked if we could repaint them! I believe there were about 6 total. We sprayed the red over the pink ones and blue over the greens to make a bright emerald. Then new shiny top coats and the basses sold right away. I think if you get scratches on this bass, they may be bordered with a bit of the original pink. You could also check the edges of the electronics cavity ledge and get a peek of the old pink days. I believe you will have the first recorded Alembic in Iraq. | ||

Mica, Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'm getting a somewhat unique instrument given its history. It's fairly similar in build to my other Essence, so I'm looking forward to getting it. I'm sure it will sound fairly similar. I'm going to get some pictures of myself with it in front of one of Hussein's former palaces here, and post it in the Showcase section. Now there's something the average Alembic owner doesn't do every day! I'll look for the pink paint inside the electronics cavity. I've got my wife sending me some Flitz, polish, lemon oil, etc. to get her in shape, so I'll be giving it the once over in any event. Best regards, Alan |
