Hello, being new to the Alembic club I just bought a '77 Series I Bass (Stanley Clarke type). It has got two(!) truss rods which cause a rattling noise when knocking against the back of the neck. I know this sound from Fender necks when the trussrod is either broken or loosened. Both trussrods seem to work fine though. Is the rattle something to worry about? Any opinion? If the rods function and don't rattle when you are playing, then you can probably leave it as is. To repair, we would pull the fingerboard, reset the rods with some silicone to insulate, and install a new board. | ||

Hi mica, thank you for the info. It does not seem to be audible in playing unless the tension of the trussrod is just a little too low. Since the bass sounds and plays great I guess I'm gonna live with it. By the way: is the rattling trusssrod (a probably rare) but known issue? Thanks again, Juergen | ||

I've not heard a rattling truss rod except for one time when the weld failed. Of course then, the rod wasn't functioning so it had to be replaced. One thing you might try is a heavier tension string that will allow you to use more truss rod tension. That might brace it against rattles. |
