Well fellas, I have finally done it. No, I haven't fixed the nomad head. I had a gig on Saturday night(May 6), and I couldn't stand playing that transtube any longer. So, I went to the nearest Mesa dealer, and $1800.00 later I came out with a Dual Rectifier! I absolutely love it! It sounds amazing. I could have gotten the Triple Rectifier for $100 more, and at that price, $100 is like $1. But, ultimately I decided against it by reason of the extra $60 or so in tube expense per year, and the fact that if 100 watts won't do it, don't I need to be miked into the P.A. anyway? Oh, and the fact that out of the dual, triple, and stiletto duece, I only really connected with the dual. As for the nomad, we are setting up an appointment with the doctor(Mesa auth. dealer) and getting a professional opinion and operation. Then I might sell it, or I might just sit on it. Oh yeah, this is supposed to be a funny story, and the last big story about the Dragon's Wing was not. At the gig Saturday night, we(the band, Old Hauntie -Me-bass, guitar, vocals/ Craig-guitar, bass, vocals/ W.L.-drums) started playing John the Fisherman by Primus, if you don't know it you should, and when we hit the break in the intro W.L. came back into the song "up on the downstroke" so to speak. He was playing perfectly, just completely out of time with the bass and guitar. It was hilarious! I wondered what to do. He's a great drummer, but when he gets off, there's no recovering for him and he'll play the rest of the song that way if you let it happen. So, figuring the audience didn't know who Captain Beefheart or Primus was for that matter, I took upon myself to stop the song. It was at that time myself, Craig, and W.L. broke into gut-wrenching laughter, as the crowd soon followed. What a few years ago could have been a devastating and humiliating situation, ended up being a truly joyful experience. We expected nothing much from that show on Saturday. We had everything stacked against us on a good turnout of people(the Nascar race, Cinco de Mayo the night before, a huge local band playing at another club, prom night, college graduations, not to mention we have not been playing long enough in this band to build a loyal fanbase yet). I have never seen odds like that. But the few people that were there had a blast, and I had more fun then than I have had in a long time. Well, this wasn't a funny story, but it was a fun story. Brandon Oh yeah, Dave, I read my owners manual for the dual rectifier and it states that the amplifier is not damaged or affected by improper loads on transformer. Talk about a match made in heaven! |
