Fabrice, check the serial number again; you appear to be missing a number. The first two numbers, 93, are the year the bass was made. The next two characters should be SC, which designates a Stanley Clarke Deluxe model. The remaining numbers place the instrument sequentially among the instruments made. Instrument number 805 was made in 1977. The bass you are looking at should have four numbers after the SC.

Hi Rimski and Tyxe,

Looks like I'm looking at the same bass on ebay again. I'm going to go and see it in person on Saturday and have requested the build record in the meantime, but could you guys tell me if there's anything about it you'd be wary of? I never saw the original ebay listing and this relisting looks genuine and the seller sounds a stand-up guy - I'm just wondering why you didn't have a good feeling about it when it was listed earlier.

Cheers,

K.

Hi Karl, don't worry, nothing special to say about this bass. The first time the seller put it on ebay it didn't have any photo so i was a bit suspicious. As i said that was only a feeling and like i live at Paris and couldn't see it in person i didn't bid.
Good luck.

Thanks, Tyxe, that's reassuring. In fact, the seller said the same thing - that he tried to sell it last week, but decided to take it down until he had some pics because people kept asking for them. I'll let you know what the bass is like anyway, whether I end up buying it or not.

Karl, I note the price has also gone up significnatly since it was first listed (it is now listed again). Looks like a very pretty bass though. The odd thing is that someone did actually bid and win it on ebay and the original seller is re-reslling but no negative feedback appears for either. Let us know how it goes!

Hi guys,

Well, I went to see this bass today. Spent a bit of time trying it out and shooting the breeze with the vendor (a very nice chap who clearly knows and cares a lot about basses). And I bought it. Or rather, did a part-exchange for my Alembic Mark King. The vendor was looking for something bigger than his SC; I was looking for something smaller than my MK. So it was a nice match!

I have to say, I'm over the moon with it. Immaculate condition, plays like a dream. I didn't really want to part with my MK because the sound and playability were perfect for me, but the size of it had always made it difficult for me to lug it around and fit it in my car with my amps. So this SC was a great find - the same sound and playability as my MK, but in a smaller package.

It seems that whatever may have happened last week with the initial auction was a genuine mistake, no harm intended - I'd definitely recommend this seller - just in case anybody here is interested, he's also selling a rather tasty Status Stealth, which I got to have a quick look at while I was there: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/status-bass-stealth-green-l-e-d-s_W0QQitemZ7418194069QQcategoryZ4713QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem.

Thanks for your help anyway, guys.

Yours,

Karl

Nice one Karl. Thanks for feedback! I'm now very jealous! Are you going to post some picks for the unwashed masses?
