I figured out what the problem is with my pickups in my 82 distillate, but I do not know how to fix it. Attached you can see the wires from the pickup selector and one white wire is loose. Can you send me some info as to where it must be attached to or do I need to send in the electronics back to you?
Thanks

Albert, you might as well send the pre amp back to them, let them do the upgrade and fix the problems that are already there. It's not as expensive as you might think just give them a call and get the quote for the repair. It will be worth it.

Isn't the "upgrade" for Series instruments? Even then, my '76 Series I guitar hasn't had the upgrade, nor have I noticed any interference problems. One loose wire? I'd wait to hear from Mica before I'd start pulling electronics and getting shipping quotes. I suspect this may be a relatively easy and quick fix.

I sent in the electronics to them a couple of years ago as I was picking up radio interference. Although it was cheap to fix, it took a long time due to their work load and priorty. However the board is tightly packed and if the fix is done wrong... that spells disaster, so it may be worth the time and expense to get it done right by Alembic.
I will call Alembic on Monday and get their input.

Thanks all

Hi Albert,

Here's your photo, marked with where to solder the rogue wire in place:

Must take great care when taking out and reinstalling these handwired boards, they can be delicate.

These electronics have the RF upgrade, which is usually needed on Spoilers, Distillates, Europas, and Rogues made before 2000.

Thanks Mica. I am very happy with the work you did no the RF upgrade.
I think the wire may have come loose when I took the bass for a set up.
I appreciate the help with this .

Contacted Steve's music store in Toronto.
They said they could do the job. A little nervous if I have to leave the bass there, but will try take it down tomorrow at lunch.

Will update everone.
Thanks

Spliffy, two points:

1. beware, a bit, of steve's, or any big store in Toronto. Watch like a hawk.

2. My office is just a block from there. Post back and we could meet at lunch, it would be a gas.

Ha, funny how the pictures make the board look so big! the repair guy jumped after he examined the picture then opened the control cavity to see this tiny board!
Good news is it is now fixed, so I am happy. I told them I was taking the bass to the repair dept myself and the guys up there we so impressed that I did so much homework on the repair before bringing in the bass, so they did it right away for me (took an hour)
Rick, I am at King and Bay, it would be cool to meet up for lunch some time. Let me know. Sorry I am only replying now...
