Hello all, I have enjoyed looking at your fantastic basses! I have seen an Alembic Bass for sale with the serial no 8493132. The serial No is on the fret board. It has two-a-side tuners, 3 controls and mini Toggle switch. I'm not sure what type of wood it is, looks like a dark red mahogany? What would be a reasonable price for this model? Need to know asap please before it's gone! Many Thanks Paul (Beasy) UK.

Hi Paul; since you are in a hurry, I'll see if I can help since the Alembic staff are quite backed up at the moment.

The third character should be a letter and based on your description is probably an S, if you can check again to be sure.

If it's an '84 Spoiler, than the body is probably Mahogany. There should be a top body laminate as well; many from that period had Koa tops. If it's a Spoiler, then the three controls are as described here.

There are pictures of Spoilers here. You can compare the bass you are looking at to these.

Generally, and roughly, on the used market a Spoiler in good condition goes for around $1,000 to $1,400 for a private sale. However, prices for used Alembics seem to be going up significantly recently, so my guess may be low. Dealer sales will be higher. However, UK prices for Alembics are generally much higher.

Hope that helps.

Many thanks Dave, I think you are correct that it is a spoiler. I have (I hope attached a photo) of a members bass, hope they don't mind. It looks very much like this. I think £1200 is high, I was thinking that it was worth maybe £700-800. I will go and look at it again and take some photos.
Thanks PaulSpoiler bass

Hi James; Exploiters don't trade often, so it's hard to know what the current market price would be, but a very rough guess off the top of my head would be $1,500. But that's just a very rough guess; market prices tend to vary widely.
