Hi James,

If that's the quilt maple topped MK for sale from Stevo down in Margate on ebay, I can vouch that it's a lovely bass. I bought it new for £2800 from the Bass Centre in 2001 (they were having a sale - original price was £3800 at the time, though Alembic prices have gone up over the last few years), used it extensively but carefully for 3 years then had to switch to a smaller car, so using it live became a problem (the case is huge!). So when I saw Stevo there selling a shorty SC deluxe earlier this year, I asked if he was willing to part-ex it for the MK. So now I've got an Alembic I can fit in my car. That's the only reason I got rid of that MK - she's a beautiful bass, not a mark on her when I left her with Stevo, and she never let me down - good stable neck (after the initial set-up, I never had to adjust it all the time I had the bass), very little fretwear.

Hope that helps!

Hi Karl,

that is indeed the one, thanks for the info.
Stevo was'nt sure of the string spacing would it be 16.5mm? and i was wondering as its a Mark King why does it have MJ in the serial number?

cheers, James.

MK = Mark King Custom Signature
MJ = Mark King Standard Signature

Hi James,

Yes, the string spacing on that MK is definitely narrower than my non-Alembic basses (Stingray and Status), and it's the same as on the SC I'm now using - I think 16.5mm is the Alembic default unless you specify anything different.

And Adriaan's right: MJ designates a Sig Standard, MK designates Sig Deluxe (added back laminate and neck laminates).

Trust me to get the names wrong - of course Karl's right about Deluxe (not Custom).
