I just purchased an Alembic Excel 5-string fretless in amazing condition and perfect-working order. This bass looks pretty much brand-new and is the coolest design I have ever seen for a bass! I was told it was made with a very rare and beautiful wood called Canary Wood. The top and headstock is Canary wood, the body is Ash, the neck is Maple, and the fretboard is Pau-Ferro. Can this be confirmed by the serial number? It looks much more "conservative" that the more elaborated designed models. I don't like all the frosting that is available and this base is just what I was looking for in a bass instrument. The "simple" beauty of this instrument is what attracted me to it apart from the sound. It only has one pickup near the bridge and I hope it can produce the sound I dream of from a bass as I get to know it better. What can you tell me about it including date manufactured, etc.? Thanks!

Hi Hector; welcome to the group and congrats on the bass! Mica will probably be looking up serial number requests fairly soon, so keep checking back. Meanwhile, check out the FAQs and Must Reads sections; lots of helpful and interesting things there.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the greeting and warm welcome. I am very glad to have this forum in which I can learn more about this beautiful bass instrument I just purchased. I don't no weather to play it or just frame it! I am posting some pictures that I just took hoping it reflects some of its beauty.

Wow! that is good looking. I really like the dark / light contrast of the front and back. Congrats again, I am not familiar with canary wood, I like it.

Hmmm.. looking the product page just now....the new Excels now sport two pickups with one v. close to the bridge like this one. I seem to recall the Excels when they first came out had one Fatboy somewhere in the middle?
In anycase, I really like the look of this one with the single pickup clsoe to the bridge.

I know I pulled this file recently for the guy that was selling it. I'll have to look in the to-file pile to find out specifics. I'll look in the morning.
