Today I ventured into a small music shop in Traverse City (MI) and struck up a conversation with the owner about basses. He had some interesting instruments, not your usual p-bass, jazz basses as far as the eye can see shop and I brought up that I played an Alembic. The conversation is as follows:

Owner- Oh yeah thats a niiiice bass, it's a shame they went out of business"

Me-...wait what?

Owner-Yeah them bartolini pickups sound realll nice in those basses.

Me-well i'm fairly sure that the owner Ron designed their own pickups/electronics.

Owner-Thats what they'll tell ya, but in reality bartolini built and designed their pickups. That ron is an egomaniac.

At this point I slowly backed away from him and pretended to have a phone call. Needless to say it was...interesting. It threw me off a bit because he seemed pretty nice and knowledgeable. So if you ever in Traverse go to the music shop on main street and mention Alembics, It's pretty entertaining

edit: damn those misspellings

Bill,
the guy must be confusing Ron Wickersham with the new owner Ron Zoni..the business was picked up and moved to Washington you can still get the bartaloni in olympic :-)

Lets see if I have this right.
When Ron discovered he did'nt make all those pickups he sold out to Bartolini who went broke after moving to Washington then selling out to Ron Zoni who started making pesto but went broke after eating to many cans of spagetti O's.
He then started making cable cars but the blue prints got mixed up and came out of the factory as ice rink resurfacing so he changed his name to Zamboni which has totaly confused Bill who has given up his law practice to go on the road with Bannarama.

My late papa used a phrase that I find suits many people, "they may be wrong, but they're never in doubt".

We have a litle music store in the sticks here that is owned by a guy who supposedly has had some songs recorded by some Nashville artists. I went in the other day and he said one of his playing buddies was going on the road with Bon Jovi. I remarked, "I heard Bon Jovi was doing some country stuff now."
"Oh no," he declared. "Bon Jovi is rock and roll. He no country."

....well, I mumbled, as I backed out the door - empty handed.

Maybe Ron W forgot he went out of business and carried on regardless making instruments.
Or maybe he will quit and work for Dolmio pasta sauces. the first pasta sauce with no hum when the fan assisted oven is on.
Bon Jovi..I heard he was doing jazz!!! or is that me getting confused because I thought the gold Alembic logo on my pick ups were morphing into Bartoloni logo.
Strange how stories are begun

I just saw a clip from an SNL of two dudes trying to get a record deal as "Jon Bovi"

They sang original songs such as "You love ain't like Good Medicine, Good Medicine is not what I need"
