What can I say, (that has not been said) about this timeless work of art? I'll tell you a story about my first purchase of a series I purple heart... It was a raining cold day..... Not! It was in San Francisco, CA 1992. I bought a Purple Heart series I. To make a long story short, I had sold the bass after 10 years playing. In those days, it was easy to think of selling because I had just finished college, and I was going through a personal transformation anyway, and thus selling the bass after having it for many years, I figured I could get another one later. Boy was I wrong! After over 16 years later, I just purchased a classic 1976 shorty series I bass and that was out of luck. I been looking for years for another Alembic, but cost, time, and environment "just was not aligned with the stars" over those years. It got to a point, where I would just stop thinking about bases in general and got more into living the cycle of life... marriage, children, house, car, and work. Then one beautiful day in Atlanta I enter a Guitar Center, and take a peek. BAM-it hit me, I see a beautiful shorty! I didn't think it would take me "that long" to get another masterpiece of a bass, but it did. However, all in all, I am happy and it was something an old man like me, to look forward to. As you get up in age, there's not too many things that could make you feel like a kid, but buying that Alembic in Atlanta was a thrill and I felt so great. This says much about the quality and most importantly, the sound. | ||

Congratulations Hal and welcome to the club. When you get a chance post some pix. I remember the first time I played an Alembic and that was in 1977. It took me 29 years later to actually own one. I know how you feel, Olie | ||

I've never understood why we can't have marriage, children, cars, a nice place to live, and a great bass to boot. Sure, you have to work really hard and give up some stupid little things so you can have what's really important to you, but so what? In any case I'm thrilled to hear you got another Alembic, one the same age as myself and in my favorite color, incidentally, and would love to see pictures of it when you get a chance. KFS | ||

Now that I look back, I wish I never had sold my orignal bass. I never really need to sale my bass, but when you are young, you do stupid things like that. I will never give up another Alembic bass "knock on wood" (my bass, that is...) again! I was just referencing my back ground and my passions for this high performance machine which reflects your's and my good taste in sound. Hey, before my family, car, home and all of that other responsible stuff required as a father, husband, friend, and musician... music was, is, and will always be a corner stone in my life when everything else parrish and now, since I have another Alembic back in my life again, I am so over joyed with life again; and it feeled a major musical void. Also, I am honored to join such an elite group of people, on a wonderful board. You have to remember, the Internet was not available "back in the day" when I got my first Alembic. If it was, I would had learned from elders addressing perhaps, such an experince. It feels good, to have something really wonderful like an Alembic to talk about and to others who know the quality first hand. I'll send pictures... Peace! | ||
