Thanks Dave and Mark,

When it arrives I certainly will post my pictures. Slight bump in getting it here... looks like next week with the holiday this Monday.

Everybody have a great Labor Day!

There is no need to complete this request. The Series bass arrived in DOA condition. Followed some advice and it still did not operate as it was supposed to. I returned it (luckily I was able to do so) and picked up a beautiful MK.

Thanks

Art, I'm really sorry it arrived DOA... but I'm sure glad you were able to return it, and that you got a beautiful MK!

Of course, I'd sure like to hear the full story -if you have the time and inclination- and I'd also love to see and hear about the MK!!!

And my MK should be coming in roughly a week!!!

Mark, I saw your bass again today as I read through your build discussion in the Factory to Customer area. It looks like a real keeper - Beautiful all over. I'm sure you are anxious. Play it in good health!!!

This one somehow fell into my lap. I'm very happy as the MK's were where I first started looking.

I am sorry to say that the MK will not be staying. But good things are happening because of this. It was sold to me by a major US retail chain who took it in on trade only days ago. Before I proceeded with a serial build request I checked for its existance on this forum. What I found was that this MK Coco bolo is owned by user "darkstar01" by only doing a compare of the Coco bolo in the picture (quite a distinct fingerprint as we all know). I contacted this user and he has relocated leaving some of his belongings in a South Carolina location and was totally unaware that it had been STOLEN along with another of his Alembics (and another bass). I know we can get this MK back to him and hope that with the quick actions taken he can retrieve the other basses.

Now for the messy part... how to get it back to him while making sure that this chain store credits my account so that I may continue my search.

Any advise in the situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Art

P.S. You know, what's up with my luck here as two transactions with the same retailer have gone awry.

Wow, Art, I'm really sorry to hear about your bad luck -again- with this latest MK bass.

I'm not clear... did you find or get Austins stolen "Darkstar"? That's an Ebony MK with a distinctive Grateful Dead inlay in the peghead.

Or did you get some OTHER bass Austin had stolen?

You said the owner was unaware it had been stolen, and Austin was quite aware of Darkstar being stolen, so I'm interpreting this to be another bass... which would mean his luck is even crummier than yours. I'd like to hear the rest of this sad story, and the details, to get it straight.

And good luck sorting it out.

I would like to know more too!

How about that Series 1 that was D.O.A.?? What does that mean? Broken in shipping? No electronics? Was about the body style? Talk to me.

Mark,
Austin was unaware that these basses were stolen as he has relocated to NYC. This is his MK Coco Bolo not Dark Star. I spoke to the chain store and they have been great and are ready to help me in any way they can when the time comes. They are awaiting a police report and proof of ownerships as we know life stories can all be different. There could have been many different reasons and maybe even a legitimate one as to why it was traded which would mean the bass would remain with me (quite convoluted), but I am not enjoying it until the time comes to really do so.

Michael,
As for the Series, it was not in good shape and the electronics were very rough. Dave and I spoke trying to get things to work correctly without luck. The store has had problems with it as well, they spoke to Chicago and they tried to say it needed the power supply (NOT) when we all know it should operate on batteries. The current store has also determined that it is defective. I have decided that when and if I have to search again I will be looking more so at a later model and not so much a vintage piece.

Thanks everybody!

Art

Thanks for the update, Art. Once again, I'm really sorry for your crummy luck. And I also feel really sorry for Austin... after having Darkstar stolen some months back, now he's apparently had another Alembic stolen... and another bass as well...?

I wish both you and Austin the best, and am certainly interested in knowing how this story resolves.

It's a moot point by now, but the file for this bass could not be located.
