Folks,

I sold my Spyder today. I sold it to Dean J., who came up from South Carolina to take a look at it. He, like me before I began owning and playing Alembics had been lusting for one for a while.

Dean and I spent some time together in my "bass room" as he tried out the Spyder. I had a lot of fun explaining to him how the Spyder worked, what the controls were, how they operated, etc. Dean, by the way is quite a fine player.

I went outside and made some fajitas, and spent time "breaking bread", so to speak with Dean. My my wife and I truly enjoyed his company. BTW, Dean is a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, and is still serving as a civilian with the Air Force.

In the end, Dean decided that my Spyder (and Alembic) was for him. He left here with the Spyder, and I wished him well and hope that he enjoys it as much as I have. I have a Series II Entwistle replica being built, so this was the logical step for me as much as I liked the Spyder.

It was personally gratifying for me to see someone interested in Alembic basses, and to have the opportunity to talk someone through them. Hopefully, we have a convert. From what I could see, I think we do.

My guess is Dean will be frequenting these forums now. This is a good thing - Dean's a great guy, great player, and now an Alembic owner. It's a win-win for us all.

Well then Dean will just have to bring it to the NC gatherings.

Congrats Dean; I can personally say it's a fine bass!

well done Dean for the purchase but I bet there was still a little heartache when you parted your ways with the spyder but it does look like that it has gone to a good home.
Hope to see Dean on the forum

Hello everybody... I'm Dean Johnson of Sumter South Carolina. I'm the VERY proud and happy owner of Spyder 7 of 50. I've posted a photo of me with her taken late this afternoon behind my home. I have yet to fire up my main amp with Spyder, just my Ampeg B-100R so far. And it sounded GREAT! My band (Last Call) will be playing at a small club behind Shaw AFB on 12-13 October and I plan on turning Spyder loose on an unsuspecting audience. :-)

Welcome to the club, Dean, and congrats on getting a MAJOR bass! Just remember where you put it at night, and, if you wake up in the middle of the night and forget what it is and where it's at, don't panic and step on it! Keep 'em flying!

Hi everyone! Thanks to all for the kind thoughts, and of course; thanks Alan for letting me buy her from you. And thanks Alembic, for giving us such rich instruments.

For those interested, you can click on my name to see my profile here... there's a picture of me there, and I've posted some pictures at the Showcase on this site: http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/44831.html?1191795048

Hope all is well with everyone.

Well, it's Sunday evening here in Sumter SC. Spyder had her first outing here last night at a small club behind Shaw AFB. Bunch of people there. Everyone was freaking out over her. I was stunned by the good sound put out.

All my other basses, when played by me... I could never seem to get upper notes to sound out to where I could hear them. Spyder roared out loud and clear across the entire range. For the first time in my years of playing "Freebird" I could actually hear what I was doing (during the instrumental last half of the piece).

People were coming up to me right and left during the breaks to ask me about the Spyder.

My bandmates told me they've never heard anything like it. Full, clean and clear with just the right amount of growl.

I'm so very happy with Spyder.

Dean, I guess I'm a little late but it's nice to meet you. Congratulations on the Spyder. Leon Wilkenson(RIP)always had a nice selection of basses that I'm surprised he didn't play Alembic.
