I played a gig this last weekend, using my standard "small rig" (F1-X, SF-2, QSC-1804 Power Amp, Korg DTR-1000 tuner, Furman AR-1215 Voltage Regulator, Ampeg BXT-210M cab, Ampeg BXT-115HLF Cab). The club we played had a great sound system, wonderful stage, and equally awesome sound engineers (very nice guys, easy to get along with).

At the end of the evening, I was told the following:

"You're a bad@ss player." - Uhh, thanks.
"Your rig is great - it's smooth. We actually had to take the compression off of the channel at the board as it was limiting your tone."

I had them take the direct out from my F1-X. When we did our soundcheck, you could barely hear the bass, but it was because they thought I was running compression (I wasn't). Once they figured that out, they cut the compression, mixed it down, and it was awesome.

After the gig they told me I was one of the easiest bass players they'd worked with, and the tone was to die for.

BTW, I used my SC Sig Deluxe that night.

Chalk another one up for Alembic.

Great when you get compliments for you equipment as well as your playing.
I just got back from a gig this evening with a blues band in a small pub.
I took my Elan 4 to it's first live gig and my mesa boogie walkabout and new 4x10 powerhouse cab. The sound was very meaty. every one of the band members came up to me at some point during the evening to compliment me on the sound.

Another notch on the post for Alembic.

I have a walkabout scout too - man I love that thing. I think I'm going to get another cab and use it as my smaller rig. Gobs of power, simple to use, and tone for days.

I had a similar experience last year. I am self taught and was doing a gig with a keyboard player who graduated from Berklee and with a Nashville session drummer. The drummer and I had never played together until the gig and I was concerned that the keyboard player would be critical of me since I have not had any professional training. After the second song, the drummer jumped up from behind his kit and grabbed me and said, "We have to record together sometime". After the gig, the keyboard player told me that I was the best "in the pocket" bass player he had ever played with. The sound guy was raving about my tone. He said my Alembic had such a clear and true sound that he barely had to EQ it at all. It's nice to get compliments like that from guys who have been around a while.
