I am currently travelling with a minimum of luggage, therefore I am set up in (kind of) a hotel room right now with only a small bass (not even my Alembic), a portable Gallien-Krueger MB150E portable mini-combo and my F2B w/Superfilter. I want to play through the GK amp for it's headphones capabilty and DI-output feature but really want to use the F2B/Superfilter as the tone shaping component. Since I'd usually connect the F2B/Superfilter to a power amp instead of to another pre-amp like in my case, how do I make the best use (i.o. to quietly practice/record) of the equipment I have here at hand right now? I tried to plug the F2B/SF output to the regular instrument input of the GK with all the volumes at a feasable minimum, but I get a heavy hum/hissing noise nevertheless. I also tried the aux input of the GK with no better results. I should add that the onboard electronics of my Pangborn-bass (yes, that's all I have with me atm) suck, but the Alembic components give it a fantastic tonal quality - except of course for the noises. I don't get the noise pattern when plugging the bass directly to the GK, although the misarable condition of the bass electronics can produce scratch noises when dialing through the knobs. Looking forward to suggestions! BTW. This is all mainly about playing the bass through headphones and recording ideas to a minidisc-recorder as I go. If anyone knows how to get that with the F2B/SF setup WITHOUT a detour through the GK amp, I am more than happy! Thanks to everyone in advance! Hartmut |
