Hi guys!
Im in the way on a custom bass with 33" scale.
In determining the pups position, I need to know the lenght of the fingerboard because I m positioning with reference to the bridge distance.
I believe some of you have an Alembic with 33 scale.I will really appreciate if any of you may spare some time and measure the lenght of the fingerboard from the nut to top of the 23rd fret
My custom bass is going to hv only 22 frets,so the ebony will go to the 23rd fret.
Thanks in advance!.
Regards

I don't have a 33" scale but the calculated distance from the nut (on a 33" scale) to the 23rd fret is 24.26" (23.74" to the 22nd fret plus the distance to where the 23rd fret would be). I hope that helps.

Don't they usually position the pickups relative to the natural harmonics (flageolet notes)?

This may be true for a fixed length string (for example an open string although not necessarily a design rule) but as you play the instrument, the strings' lengths are shortened and the harmonics' locations change relative to the pickups (all harmonics will get closer to the bridge)

Rickenbacker basses utilize a 33.5" scale - not quite 33" exactly, but close. However, the REAL question might be, what sort of overall TONE are you going for? Pickup placement will have a LOT to do with the final outcome of THAT little issue, as well as potential playing comfort issues (i.e. the "slap" technique is easier to manage on a bass with more room between the fretboard end and the neck pickup).

exactly!
Ive to know the lenght,so hat I can measure the remaining space between the fingerboard and bridge.
Thus, placing the pups for the tone and technique in mind.
BTW.Mica just emailed me today regarding the issue.
Thank you for the concern and information guys.
best regards
Robert
