Hi Peter, welcome to the forum!

The 98 at the start of the number tells us that your Excel was finished in 1998, and it was roughly the 11,862nd instrument that Alembic built.

Hi Peter,

Here's the details I found in the instrument file:

XLB5 Excel 5-string bass

top: Flame Maple
accent: Walnut
body: Ash
neck: 5-piece Maple with 4 Walnut pinstripes
scale: 34" long
fingerboard: Pau Ferro
pickup: Alembic FatBoy
controls: volume, bass, treble, mono output
finish: satin natural polyurethane (oil-look)
birthday: November 17, 1998
originally made for: Station Music

That's all there is.
