When I used to play more non alembic basses and guitars, (strats), I rarely needed to change the tone on my guitars during a song. ( well nothing much happens apart from the extreme ends of the pot range.)

Usually it was more likely that I would change tone from selecting a different pickup. Also I note that in doing this i rarely had to make big changes to the volume control to compensate.

What I find with my alembics that have only one filter and q-switch is that when I use the filter knob to make big tone changes, even without the q-switch in), I also have to adjust the volume quite significantly either down at the bright end or up at the deep end in order to maintain my output volume at the same level it was before adjustment.

There is also a noticeable difference in guitar output from the high to low strings especially at the low frequency range of the filter. In this case the high E and B strings hardly have any volume compared to the other strings. .

This seems less noticeable on my signature bass.

Is this something a compressor would sort out for me or is there some tripmpot inside that i can tweak?

jazzyvee..when I got my MK 10 years ago it took me ages to get to know it and I had to make some adjustments.
As you know the neck PU always is louder as the string moves greater in this area, what I did was a combination of lowering the neck PU and turning the trimpot down but only slightly and raising the bridge PU and turning that trimpot up.
It took me a while but I now have equal volume on all settings.
Even the slightest height and trimpot adjustments make a lot of difference..Good luck and be prepared to spend a few hours doing this procedure

You may need to adjust the pickup heights to even out the volume from low to high strings.

....raise them at the E string and lower them at the G string. And Terry is correct, you'll probably notice more at the neck Pup.
