Aside from the one that feels so good, what body and configuration seduces you the most. The one you can't take your eyes off. The one you long to hold.

I like the perky horns and big round bottom of the early Distillate...

HI,
I also have an early 81 Distillate and a 97 standard point Series II.

I seem to like those body style designs but One of these days I think I am going to have a custom body Series II built. The shape is still in the design stages in my mind .

For me, it's the Exploiter (of course), the SC, the Essence, and the Epic. I like the Europa as well, but with a Signature electronics package. The Balance K is a winner IMHO, as is the EVH. Not a fan of the Standard Point or anything with an omega, but that's just me.

My personal favourite is the simple and elegant Essence's bodyshape (although I love my Rogue).

My dream is to order a 6 string Essence with Rogue's eletronics equiped with one of those 3 stages Q switch. Mahogany Body, Maple/Ebony laminate Neck, Maple accent and figured Walnut, Redwood or ony other dark wood on Top, MOP oval inlay and matching Headstock.

For bass my fave is Small Standard Body Shape. Elan, Europa. I'm not keen on the large body shapes, points or cutouts although I admire/appreciate the design.

I love the Spoiler body. If they only had a proper headstock........
I also like the Standard Point & Omega a lot, and the Europa. The Dragonwing is beautiful, but not something I'd want, if that makes sense.

This is subjective but I am pretty partial to the Rouge. But it's all good, it would be a tougher question to ask anyone to name even one that isn't sexy.

You know? I just came here looking for parts when I found this very fun forum of folks that love the same things I do. (Playing bass, especially on an Alembic)

Boy you guys just keep them coming!! I love the Rouge that got posted right after mine (fc_spoiler)and then the 'Bass' Ale bottle was cute too. Using beer bottles to play slide on a bass is a blast. I first formed the thought after attending a Savoy Brown show as a kid. Their lead guitarist (Kim Simmons? Is that right?) used a Heinekin bottle for a whole bunch of great solos over the night and it was really good. As luck would have it someone bought me a Heinekin a few nights later when I was out working (I was undersage at the time too so that was really nice of him) and looking down at it in my hand made the picture from a few nights before flash in my head so I did an impromtu solo. The other guys I was playing with liked it and started asking me to do it other nights too. (sure folks, just keep buying me beers, I'll do that) I did find that using a full unopened one kept a better tone going and that the brand is less important (but obviously you would skip a Michelob bottle). Anyhow, cool shot.

BTW - If we all look away from our own personal choices and ask ourselves what is the sexiest we see someone else with I do have to go with that one that SerialNumber12 put up near the top. That thing is freakin' beautiful, just wanted to point that out.

Ah, I get the joke now. I misspelled Rogue the first time I typed it and now my system is finishing the word incorrectly each time after that. My own automation getting away from me. Sorry guys. (And no, I don't like any form of makeup, rouge or otherwise)

Double post will happen a lot to you if you become a usual member to the club.
You will get the hang of it... And, you can always edit a message so you can pretend you did not double post for mistake!

Good to know, and thanks. It took me a moment but I now see the little icons to the far right for editing. Being the curious jackass sort I right away clicked on someone's other than mine to see what would happen and I see how they covered that.

This topic thread needs more pictures. Begs for them in fact.

Hi Robert; welcome to the board.

A couple decades ago or so ago, a saw the Nighthawks open for George Thorogood. I'm pretty sure Jimmy Thackery was the guitar player at that time. There was one song where during a rather long and very entertaining slide guitar solo, the singer, Mark Wenner, kept handing Thackery different "slides" to use, beer bottles, mic stands, etc, and without missing a note Thackery would keep playing this blistering guitar solo with each new "slide". Finally Wenner brought out a watermelon. Didn't slow down Thackery a bit; and the crowd of course loved it. Oh, and in my view that night, Thackery and the Nighthawks blew away Thorogood.

Jack, I agree.

Here's my quote from Rick's FTC:
November 13, 2009

"...Your bass is BADD!

In fact, I believe it is the Baddest CocoBolo/Sexy Alembic ever made yet...."

I still agree with this statement.

So, with Greg's and Rick's Almebics included, I don't feel like I lost my eyes :-)

Every Alembic has a certain sexiness to begin with, even when it's just dormant (like a Ferrari parked at the curb). So many of you have absolutely stunning basses, it would be impossible to pick any one as being the sexiest!

In the 70's I loved the large-body Series with the point, then over time began to feel they looked slightly dated and overly "mother hipped" (yes, feel free to mentally slap me; I was ignorant and unworthy...).

In more recent times, as I was looking through the COTM's and FTC threads, I fell in love with the balance K with BTC top wood and finally got one (see below and my profile pic)!

As much as I'm still crazy about my Mark King Deluxe, a standard point Series II in either BTC redwood burl, flame purple heart, superb walnut or buckeye burl (continuous wood backplates & truss rod covers, bird of prey tailpiece, etc.) will be my next baby...in about 2102!

Meanwhile, maybe Hal's Tomahawk will (chop?)open the door to a new era of custom body shapes. At the very least, his vision has certainly stirred the pot in that regard.

Sam, thanks for your kind words about the Toma_Hawk.

I never seen an ugly Alembic. If any body see's one, let me know, and point it out to me... Oh-kay-eee.

By the way, Congress Woman Barbara Lee is my cousin and she's very good at speaking her mind when necessary :-)

I love Oakland, and I would love to jam with you Sam! If you see Rusty Allen, tell I have much love for his fund-raising activities for Heart Disease in Redwood City. I love that brother, and he's a heck of a bassist too!

Peace and Love -

IMHO the sexiest Alembic body type is the Balance K with Heart Omega cutout and beveled Crown headstock. Makes me do the Homer Simpson open-mouthed drool thing.

Excluding my bias for my own alembics, these are near the top of my list of damn sexy basses.

Basses:
http://www.alembic.com/info/fc_dragonsbreath.html

For the large bodied basses it would have to be No:12.

yeah Bonnie fer sure.
A Triple O is always alot of eye candy.
But right now there is that Distillate with the stinger on it (Dave's?) that is thick and sultry and makes me drop to my knees!

However, while it's ok to drool on your keyboard it's NOT ok to drool on the alembic you're holding :-)

So Jacko, are you saying it's considered bad form to use drool for Finger Ease? :-)

I've got to agree with you Dave. Your 6 string is one of the most stunning instruments Alembic have produced in recent years*. I especially love the neck recipe.

Graeme

I just love the small standard - the symmetry, simplicity and compactness of it. But that said, I'm with Hal: I've never seen an ugly Alembic.

Pierre has my fave Stanly,Graeme's Rogue, Bob Novy's modified Rogue, Poornigel's "OtherTwin" Europa and #12. For myself I hope to build an EMW persuader w/ an omega crown headstock, 5A quilt and lots of accents............

My favorite body styles in no particular order:

Retro/Classic medium scale 4-string style: 72-01. Hard to beat the original with its symmetry and classic crown headstock.

Contemporary long scale 5-string style: Europa with 3+2 headstock. Elegant, sleek and dangerous.

Classic short scale 4-string style: Stanley Clarke Sig Deluxe. Petite with perfect proportions.

Avant-garde 4-string style: Spyder/Exploiter with "V" headstock. Absolutely outrageous in every way.

Just add yer favorite wood and electronics "recipe" to any of them and yer good to go, depending on yer mood.

That having been said, I'd be hard-pressed to identify an Alembic I don't like. Each one is unique and beautiful in its own way.

This sweetheart will be mine at some point in the future, and of course like women, sexy is in the eye of the beholder.

I'd love to see more pics of it but so far I haven't had any responses to my pleading e-mails.

The whole situation reminds me all too much of the 2-year long-distance relationship I had with the woman who was to become my wife while she finished her undergraduate studies and I was in another state in grad school. And before anyone asks, that was way before there was anything like skyping, sexting, and the like. The internet was still just a twinkle in Al Gore's eye.

That is pretty darn sexy, Rami; I mean, if a man had a bass like that, he'd never need another instrument, right?

I like the Distilliate body the most. I always looked at other Alembic models and wished they were modified. I didn't care for the point bottom of the Series basses...thought the small Series was too small..wasn't into the Omega thing. Then, I saw the Distilliate for the first time..which was what I was wishing for as a body shape.
