while building "The Fun House" here on orcas island, i had the pleasure of meeting and working with Jim Bredouw. He was a owner of a prominent recording studio in los angeles. He loaned me his Alembic 6 string,..(Which only had 4 strings on it at that time).. then, he gave it to me as a christmas bonus. i found it to have a incredably deep tone, and that i had to change the way i plucked the strings, or more accurately, touched the strings. This Alembic has to be played with more control, not banged on like my Ibanez. It took some getting used to. but after some time, the instriment has changed the way i play. Ive found that if i get my amp really pumped up, and just touch the strings, the punch is so much more responcive on all the basses i play. He said he bought the bass for his studio years ago, so his studio bass player didnt have to always bring his bass with him when a job came up. Ive had this bass for 10 years and never really researched it till now. as you can imagine i was quite taken back when i found out its value, and pedigree. so my question is,. can you tell me more about it. what year was it made? what is its style called? or even what should i put as an insurance value on it? the serial # are 86s420 5 Thank you | ||

Cool, That's a Spoiler model, ...she looks like a lovely beast : ) probably worth 2000-2500 or maybe more, depending on condition,neck laminates,etc. Close ups are always appreciated too...and might help determine the woods while you are waiting for Mica to find the build info. Happy 2010 | ||

thanks she is a sensitive thing. like i said, i had to relearn my fingering technique because if i hit those strings to hard, its not pretty. sometimes its nice to go back to my old ibanez 5 because its light and i can just bang the heck out of her....lol | ||

Well, Eddie. I don't have much information for you. All that the file says, is that it's a medium scale bass. I took your image and adjusted it so I could see some details and make some educated guesses about what's going on:  It looks to me that you have: top: Walnut body: Mahogany neck: 7-piece Maple and Purpleheart scale: 32" medium fingerboard: Ebony inlays: Pearloid (plastic) ovals pickups: Alembic AXY56 controls: "Spoiler" volume, filter, Q switch, 4-position rotary pickup selector switch, mono output Your user ID was was of several that was deleted when we had a problem with our board server.
