Hi; I have been having this problem with my bass since I got it used. I star playing and then suddenly starts making a very bad noise like if there is a short cut on the electronics of the bass or something like that. It stars to make this noise very rapidly and the sounds goes away and then comes back, I thought there was a problem with the amp, then I bought a different one and it is the same. I took it to a shop and they said there was no problem with the bass. then I tried a small battery amp and started to do the same. I changed the instrument cables and nothing, can somebody help me? Thank you!

Replace the battery and observe the results. This can serve as the first step of the trouble shooting process .

What I notice today, I was trying to pull the knobs just to check if that was the problem and it did make the sound so I opened all of them to tight them, then I tried the bass and it made the sound again, so that did not work.

Does it make a squealing noise..high pitched like feed back, if it does it could be corrosion on the jack socket.
If it is then insert and remove the jack plug a few times(carefully), this MAY cure the problem.

When I first bought my orion guitar. It was shaken about in case during transit and the knobs hand turned inside and were shorting out on the conductive shielding paint in the control cavity and I was not getting any sound out of it. I just unscrewed the knobs a bit and moved them away from the side and re tightened up and they were fine.
if you decide to check that out, make sure you read this thread first if you are not familiar with how the knobs are secured or you may be end up breaking something.
