Hey brothers and sisters,

The neck pup on my 20th Anniversary has developed an annoying buzz when a note is played. The buzz fades after a few seconds while the note continues to sustain. There is no buzz when just plugged in.

Let me get the preliminaries out of the way: I played each string along the entire neck for fret buzz; exercised all the pots; swapped instrument cables; checked the signal in various paths using a mixer, an amp/cab rig and combo amp; changed battery; checked for a possible ground issue in the control cavity; and adjusted the gain control. The only effect was that the buzz increases/decreases when adjusting the volume. Then when I swapped pup connectors . . . bingo, the buzz follows the pup wire.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks in advance,
Mike

You'll want to wait for Mica's take, but it sounds to me that if you've isolated the problem to the pickup then the next step is to send the pickup to Alembic for testing.

Thanks Dave. Although fingers crossed for a home remedy.

Think of it as a lay-a-way plan...

As in "far-a-way". Quit tempting me.
