This morning I was teaching a chapel lesson involving music, I thought it was a wonderful opportunity to get the children excited about musicianship and show off my short scale. Before I pulled it out, I showed them a short clip of an Abraham Laboriel solo. They were very impressed. I had given them percussion instruments. Some brought recorders, harmonicas and other small intruments. I pulled out my Stanley and all eyes were filled with wonder. All hands wanted to embrace it. The kids thought it was unfair of me to have the pretty guitar and they had tambourines. I really felt for them, kind of. Anyway we began to play together. Many questions followed the session. I think many were inspired to learn to play. They wanted to know exactly what kind of guitar it was and then vowed to get one exactly like it one day. I guess you're not to young to recognize a good thing. It was the most fun i've had in a long time. I'll reluctantly admit that I hooked it up into a behringer keyboard amp. It still sounded great. Hey Brother Quincy, thatIS a nice story indeed. One of my favourite things to do too: explaining music making to children and let them understand what music is all about: playing together, communicating without using ONE word. I a "creative session" I did once for fun with children mee too I worked with kinda drums made of old big round soap-boxes. When I pulled out my acoustic guitar they complained that I had the beautiful instrument andf they the scrappy soap box. I gave it a thought for a moment , strummed some chords and answered: " On this instrument I can only speak teh language of this country, the language of the drum is the oldest in the world and entire history of mankind and is spoken by all people in the world". They were MOTIVATED! And ...I didn't lie!!!! Paul the bad one |
