Thanks for that, very helpful. So does this mean it was a 'one off' custom? Also, the bass is now in Australia, was it made for an Aussie? Any idea re value? I've been dreaming about owning an Alembic for many years, this looks like it could be a nice place to start!
Thanks :-)

Since all Alembics are custom built, each is a unique, made-to-order instrument.

Yep for sure, goes without saying! I guess I wasn't clear enough, but I meant was there only one 'bat bass' made (ie the one in the featured custom article), so I can be sure the one for sale is that very one - the dates/description match up (except fretboard material - alembic says ebony but pics and seller indicate rosewood). So guess in the absence of a s/n, I can assume it's the one and only...which raises the question of why someone would let go of such a beautiful thing crafted so personally for them...?

i seem to remember seeing another bass with the inlaid top like the bat bass, but i'm pretty sure the headstock was different. what's the headstock shape on the bass you're looking into?

edit: nevermind i saw the listing on ebay. I'm pretty sure it's the same bass, the Feature Custom page might just be wrong as far as the fingerboard goes. but like i said before, i'm almost positive there's another bass with the same style inlaid top, but it has a cone headstock.

Well, crap. I just spent a lot of time writing a post with links to about 8 of Adam's creations, including "bat" basses with crown, peg, and unshown headstocks; got an error message

"Formatting Error
The formatting code link requires 2 argument(s); you provided only 1 argument(s)."

Anyone know WTF that is? I did it the same as every other link I've posted, as near as I can tell. Oh, well - go to "search" & do "Adam" in FTC - it's worth the time, I assure you!

Thanks everyone for the info - especially Peter for the search tip...you are dead right, it was worth the time...all I can say is WOW - some amazing basses there, and Adam sure goes through them!!!

I think it's safe to say I've got a positive ID now! I also stumbled across a buckeye burl top that was so beautiful it kills me...man there are some amazing Alembics out there, they are really the dream combination of my love for music and wood.

One more query - can anyone identify what electronics are in the bat bass (ie the featured custom one)? I can't seem to see the details anywhere. Maybe one of you experts can tell from the layout?

Thanks heaps guys

Like it says on the specs: "Signature electronics". So it should be master volume, pickup blend, and one filter for each pickup, each with a 0/8 dB Q switch. Plus a switch for the side leds.

Enjoy it!
