Fellow Alembicans, I'm trying to find a stand that will fit my Spyder. I have traditional stands (e.g., base yoke, and yoke to hold the neck), but what I want is something like a Hercules stand (where you put it in the neck yoke, and it "closes" around the fingerboard). You can view what I'm talking about at http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/cart/default.asp?Prod=GS412B I tried a standard Hercules stand, but I couldn't get the neck part (the part that you adjust upward) high enough. It ended up holding my Spyder, but only about an inch to two inches off the ground - not enough for my comfort zone. Anyone have any suggestions or resources? Oliver, any ideas? I use one like http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/cart/default.asp?Prod=2446W The bottom part swivels to accomodate the angle of the Spyder body - but the lowest point is close to the ground, if that's an issue. OTOH it is "ultra deluxe" - so much better than regular deluxe. | ||

Hello Alan, I don't know of a single-instrument stand that will fit an exploiter well, however this 3-instrument stand should work fine, I use it myself, putting only 2 instruments on it. I also have a 5 instrument version that I use for 3 instruments; I like to leave a space in between to reduce the likelyhood of the basses or guitars hitting each other when being removed or set down. Alternatively if you're handy with tools, it might be a simple thing to design and build one yourself with wood. http://www.emismusic.com/rockstand3.htm Valentino | ||

Alan, believe me, it is hard. I had used the one which David has with the swivelling bottom part but the Spyder slips off of it all the time. Two weeks ago I got a stand from Ultimate, model Genesis GS-100. This is much better but also not 100%. Here you hang in the neck on top of the stand and is completely hold here (you can also secure it with a rubber strap to prevent it falling off) and at the bottom the bass in only leaning towards the legs of the stand. The legs are covered with a soft kind of foam to prevent scratches on your bass. This works good but not best. Problem is that you have to hang the bass a little bit with a right angle as you canīt lean the body similar on the two legs. That means it leans towards the right leg and only the tip of the upper bass extension is touching the left leg. Oliver (Spyderman) | ||

My Spyder stand looks like the one at the right in James's picture and has a rubbery covering on the bottom bit which grips the bottom of the Spyder and stops it from sliding off. David B. | ||

Thanks to all for the great responses! I do have a few questions, however ... James: what brand is your three-guitar stand? It looks similar to the Hercules stands. Oliver: Do you have any pictures of your stand? And do you have a website I can go to to take a look at it? Val: I have a friend who has a multi guitar stand like that. I've tried them, and for Spyder and Exploiter bodied guitars and basses, they're a bit awkward. My friend has a Hamer Slammer (Gibson Explorer bodystyle) and an Epiphone Firebird, and they sit a bit awkwardly in the stand. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I've got one of these stands for The Dragon's Wing. The stand was supplied by Edwin van Huik at the Bass Connection, on his recommendation. It's an extremely sturdy stand and fits the DW perfectly. Highly recommended if my own experience of it is anything to go by! | ||

Alan, The 3-guitar stand is called Ultra-Stand, from a company called Kaman. Keavin, The "other two" guys are stunt doubles. The one on the tree is a Hanewinckel fretted 6 string. The lone soldier is (was) a Lakland Skyline 55-02 fretless. I say was 'cause I sold it to a school teacher in Minnesota when I found the 6 string fretless twin to the Hanewinckel. By chance, they happen to be consecutive serial numbers. Peace, James | ||

Floor stands have betrayed me in the past and my Spoiler/Dragon 6 went down twice.(big bucks to fix cracked headstocks) Now I only use Off The Wall wall mounts. They have a 3 point securing system.I'm using 14 of them and haven't had any problems. Children and animals cannot reach them on the wall! A machinist friend is making 2 variations of them for my wide 6 & 7 string Spoilers. Danno | ||
