I have what I believe is a complete set of Series electronics for a 5/6 string bass: 2 [black] pups + hum canceler, PF-6 board and various pots.

I bought these years ago for a project bass that I never got around to building. It's probably time to let them go, but I don't know what to ask for them.

Any suggestions?

Good question. First issue is that you really have to custom build a body to fit them between the extra cavity space for the board and the front rout for the dummy. Second issue is that they need some careful tuning, and older sets may need updating to perform well. Third issue is the need for a blue box, which would make it a complete package.

It would probably cost you at least a couple grand to buy a new set from Alembic, maybe more. That said, it's worth what you're willing to let it go for. It's also worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. If those numbers overlap, you can make a sale. If they don't, one or both sides will have to re-evaluate their value position or you get to keep them.

As far as a suggestion goes, I'd offer them for what you paid if you can remember. Make sure to provide pics detailing everything you have so there is no confusion. Also, can you confirm that everything works, and will you stand behind them if they don't?

Are you sure those are Series pickups? Looks like MXY shells... (could be Series in MXY shell)

Electronics will need a lot work, there are some missing pieces.

Hmmm..., I am certainly open to correction. By "MXY," do you mean the "Fatboys"?

Since I bought these parts from others, I may have been misinformed. I certainly don't want to misrepresent what I have. That's the reason for the picts.

Anyone know for sure?

That's a PF6 board but only has 2 pickup wires going to it instead of the 3 that a series one would use.. It does have the dual battery hookups that a series one would have. The pickups do look to be to narrow in the photo. No hum PUP, The two extra pots are odd and there is no selector switch like a series usually has. Also missing one pot. I think you have a combination series and other Alembic setup there? OR - the pickups could be for a guitar rather than a bass? Sometimes the dummy pup is destroyed when it's removed, due to it's being glued in there too well.

I'm not sure, but those two pots at the lower left COULD be the filters, and the upper-middle pot COULD be the 4-position pickup selector. I think we may have to wait until next week for our expert from the factory to weigh in (she will be busy tomorrow at the Bay Area Alembic Gathering. If I remember tomorrow, I'll ask her to check in on this thread).

If you could take closer pictures of the pots, maybe even individually, it might be easier to determine if the electronics are complete or a mixture of different beasts. I also don't think the pickups are right, they are too narrow for Series Bass, but they MIGHT be Series Guitar.

Many questions!

OK, thanks for the queries offline, and here's some more info....

I can see where someone has removed the third lead from the PF-6. If you look closely at the photo, you’ll see a hole in the circuit board just beneath the nut beside the “6” in PF-6. The other two leads are still soldered below it.

The square black controls look like dual stacked pots, I am sorry to say, not CVQs. :-( Each of them has “A-10K-OHM” written twice on its side, one above the other.

The two that are obviously stacked posts read “Alembic 475-007 19-7552” on the one and “475007 19-7535” on the other. The latter also has “256” handwritten on it. The single pot reads “475006 19-7509.”

The two switches are three-way. None of the pots click to an “off” position, nor are any of them three position switches, as someone speculated earlier.
