Finally, the website is ready and a date has been picked for the eBay auction of Alembic serial number 72-13, June 5th until June 12th 7PM PST.

This guitar was custom made by Alembic for Jerry Garcia.

Lots of photos, history, auction info and even recent video of Alembic 72-13 in action here;

Holy cow...

Short of Number One, that has to be the holy grail of early Alembics. Looks like the authentication (by Bob Weir, who should surely know) is absolutely airtight.

At a Christie's auction I'd guess one would need several hundred thou to purchase this instrument. Hope they get the bids this piece of history (and the charity) deserves.

I think a lot of people want the amp too. Doesnt seem smart to bundle them but what do I know?

To the OP you should put something about this being Garcia's Alembic. I know a lot of people here are curious about it and pics and details on it are hard to come by.

Because of the wording in the eBay Listing this Guitar does NOT appear in a search on eBay using the search word " ALEMBIC " .

Type just" Alembic " as a search word on eBay and you will see many Alembic items but NOT this one!

IN my opinion, I think as a gesture for the common good and respect for Alembic Inc. it would be a prudent action to fix the eBay listing and include the word "Alembic" in the eBay title. After all, this IS Alembic #13 . Right ? More people would find this item as well . As a regular process many Alembic Fans type Alembic as a search word on eBay to see what is new ! I do that on a daily basis.

"ALEMBIC #13" in the auction title, Please.

Thanks.

Hello Sonicus, I looked into changing the titles but once an auction starts and has a bid, many options are grayed out by eBay not allowing the seller to edit.

I hear your concern, but if you read the listing's description on eBay or the home page of our website you will see loads of respect to Alembic. Also in the Item Specifics it sates Alembic 72-13.

Hi Bill, this Letter of Authentication was written before I had come across this Alembic site. We then learned more about the guitar. On the home page of our website and in the eBay auction description of the guitar I include Ron Wickersham, Rick Turner, and Frank Fuller.

Thanwarin, I understand that eBay does not make the edit process conducive to fixing listings easy . They have a phone number that you can access where one can explain ones positive intentions to remedy an obstacle on their site and sometimes they will help you.
I wish for the best outcome for all involved.

Hi Sonicus, thanks for the tip. I called eBay and they wouldn't change it. They would not even change a typo for the location (I typed Nappa instead of Napa).

Thanwarin, Thanks for trying and for your efforts. I have had a mixed experience with eBay staff as well , with sometimes helpful and effective personnel and sometimes less. I still hope for the best outcome to help the charity attain the goal .
Best Regards .

looks like it didn't sell at $25655.55, "reserve not met".
the twitter page says "Auction didnt sell the guitar We will search for buyers privately. please email todd@jerrygarciagu.com Thanks, Amicus"

hmm, they might do better going through an actual auction house.
