http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130520728436&ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT#ht_955wt_1141 I contacted the seller and ask for disclosure of the serial number . The response was that it was a 1981. I emailed back and ask for a complete disclosure of the serial number . Looks like a nice Bass! |

No truss rod. The graphite was not exposed on the body on the '82 that I had, but that could be an individual build decision more than a stylistic trend. |

I have ask several times for a full disclosure of the serial number and it appears that the seller is selling for an owner. It does not appear that the seller is willing to release the serial number at this point in the auction, Here is his reply verbatim , quote ;_____" I have been buying and selling guitars for more than 50 years... I do appreciate you help. I understand the identification importance and the historical value of serial numbers. I can tell you how many digits there are, (you already know) I could tell you the first and last digits. Publishing the serial creates a set of problems in addition to the ones that you have presented. Thanks for your interest and your patience. - sergey_hanna " end quote. ALSO ,_____ quote;"I check the list, at Alembic, before I put it up for Auction. We are a licensed second hand dealer. Every item that we take in the store is reported to the police department. - sergey_hanna " end quote. I expressed to Sergay Hanna , that the nature of my inquiry had no intent of disrespect or or had no accusatory intention in any way and that I was trying to make him aware of what questions potential buyers will be asking him for . I told him that a serial number is important to potential Alembic buyers for this item. It is possible that he is dealing with an owner that does not want him to list the serial number, for what reason is not clear to me at this time . If there is one of you out there that might know the serial number to this Bass by means of a picture record link then we will be ahead of this situation . I think I have done all that I can do to help clear the fog. If you want to call the seller, he has listed his phone number on eBay and therefore it appears that this could be a completely legitimate scenario , maybe he will tell you the serial number if you call him and ask . Happy bidding friends ! |

The interesting fact is that on the eBay auction he is giving the location of the Bass and inviting anyone to show up,therefore anyone can go and check it out in person and SEE the serial number on the Bass, but they do not want to "publish" the serial number on the eBay auction. Perhaps this auction is well suited for a local buyer to the vicinity of the auction. Local pickup is also listed. It might be prudent to call the seller before biding regarding pickup or shipping as well. |

Check out the YouTube video of Jimmy Johnson playing with Lee Ritenour linked below. Pretty sure you can see the graphite neck on JJ's bass at the 2:25 mark... He talked about that graphite bass in the JJ showcase(artists and Alembics) thread. Bass tone Nirvana for me in this clip. If I could match that tone (the playing would be nice too, but I'll keep things realistic!), I'd be a very happy camper. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxkiqPlH3Xg Additionally, there is a thread about it here: http://alembic.com/club/messages/393/12011.html?1093709651 (Message edited by tbrannon on May 15, 2011) |
