Been playing a lot of five lately and regretting allowing my old Persuader to leave the house as the only thing left is a Zon. The Zon is great, but it isn't an Alembic. There are two things I would look for right now. One is another Zon 5, but the headless VB version as a super portable backup and travel bass. I have a Steinberger 4 that I would be willing to trade in such a deal. The other is a lower-end Alembic five in medium or short scale. The ideal bass would have side LEDs and some purpleheart in the neck recipe. I have a short scale hybrid bass that I would be willing to trade as part of a deal for the right Alembic five. It looks like an SC standard with vermillion top and core, but is numbered as an Essence. It has Europa guts, purpleheart neck lams, side LEDs, and a custom narrow string spacing to 1.5" at the nut. It has a couple filled in holes from where a previous owner tried to relocate the lower strap pin to adjust the way it hangs. I would value it in the lower $3K range in the current market. The basses are not for sale at this point, only for trade as part of the right deals. Thanks -bob |

Sorry, Eric. I wouldn't mind trying a set-neck version all things being equal, but I really prefer the "standard" taper and the short or medium scale. I was figuring the things that would come out would be an older MK or SC, or a Spoiler / Persuader / Distillate. I would look at an older Series, but it would have to be old and not the prettiest piece of wood to be in the fair trade range, even with a little cash. Any other model would probably have to be unusually customized to have a good neck for me. Oh, and frets are a must... -bob |

No leds or purple heart, just 5 strings of Alembic Essence beauty. Buckeye burl top with Q switch. Nice wide 18.5mm finger spacing. Dead mint in every respect, including case and candy. Thunderous sound. Made in 2004. Asking 2600.00 delivered, but no trades. |

A very nice bass at a very fair price, but unfortunately not for me. I'm a narrow spacing guy. With that pretty top, I expect someone would want to acquire that one pretty quickly. -bob |

Russ, I am very interested in your essence. Shoot me an email at sjhoffma@uvm.edu. I was recently bitten by the essence bug, and would love to get my hands on one asap. Love the top! |
