I've been looking for one of these for a LONG, LONG time
sale-yr2rp-2488961308@craigslist.org).

Does this look legit to people? If its in the shape he indicates the price would seem very reasonable. Problem is I'd have to fly to Syracuse to look it over, but I'd be willing to do that if he'd guarantee that he would sell it out from under me before I got there.

That (78 1113) is a well-known bass because of the unusual top wood. I've seen pics of it here before. The price is probably between half and two thirds of reasonable, so I would jump on it if you have a way to do it while remaining protected. If you don't, someone else will. $2350 for an SII bass is not going to last long at all. I have a short scale with Europa electronics that I wouldn't sell for under $3K.

As far as telling if it is legit, all you can really do is see if there is a payment method that will protect you from a scam. Either that, or see if there's a member here in the Syracuse area who could look at it for you. I do encourage you to move quickly if you want to own that bass, though.

Just a note - that's Syracuse, IN, not NY. And there was a history request a few years ago from a new owner in Boulder; proceed with caution, but if it's legit, I'm with Bob - grab that puppy!
Here's the link.

I've sent an e-mail to the seller to try to find out more about it and request a time to see it in person. I'd only purchase if this was available. Because both my wife and daughter work for the airlines, its easy for me to hop a flight to just about anywhere for free. Fort Wayne and South Bend are both relatively close and I've got a light teaching load at the University since it's summer so I could theoretically hop a flight tonight or tomorrow if it's legit. I do have my suspicions, but then again, I just picked up an FX-1 in great condition for under $300 because the guy was looking to sell.

Since the actual owner came forth in both of those cases as someone in Kansas City, it would certainly seem this is another attempted scam.

Scsmmers love to nail people who think they're getting a steal of a deal.

I e-mailed John in KC to apprise him of the situation; maybe he'll weigh in.

John (hubwolf) just answered me; 78 1113 is still his, still in KC, and still not for sale. Sorry, Brian, that would have a sweet deal if legit.

And the scams keep coming.......

Hi all, I have the bass (78-1113) and it is not going on the block anytime in the foreseeable future. The CL ad is totally bogus. If I sell it I'll post it here first.

Can you get the ad pulled? I can report it if you like.

I posted a "warning" ad on the Knoxville CL... I figure most people run across these things using a site Mash

I reported it too. Check out the "story line" I got in response to an email to the seller.

"I still have it available but unfortunately I am not home and I can't sell it myself because my sister had a baby and she had some complications so she is still under medical care. Her husband asked me if I can come and take care of things around the house until she gets better. This is no problem for me as far as the transaction is concerned because I was selling this through CAS anyway. I believe you know what CAS is if you buy and sell online often, if you don't I'll be glad to walk you through the process. Let me know if you are still interested and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have

At least he has fantasy, I love when they work a lot to create story. Sometimes I have fun to contact a clear scam to see what they're going to say, just before reporting them :-)

I sent an e-mail explaining that many people know it's a scam & are telling many more; got word-for-word the response Brian did - it's a bot.
