I'm sure there are plenty of old Alembics that could command a $10K price. Having not seen any pics or description of this bass, I think we can reserve comment on the price for the moment.

On the other hand, I will say that this is very inadequate as advertisements for the sale of Alembic basses go. As unique as they tend to be, especially a 70's Series instrument, it takes a lot in the way of description and pictures to offer one for sale and have people know what is being sold. Things like body shape, wood recipe, scale length, any inlay work, etc all factor significantly into the value of an Alembic instrument. They will also determine which of the various people here might be interested.

All that said, if there is nothing unusual about this instrument, you can take the pricing comments to heart. The market seems to be down as well of late, so even those numbers could be high.

Best of luck!

I hate to assume, but you obviously are not an Alembic player. You noticed that a new series I costs like 13,000 and assumed because yours was vintage, that it is rare and more valuable than a new one. NOT THE CASE. I can assume without seeing a picture of your bass that is is worth about 3500, and any bass player that has any interest in buying a mid to late 70s Alembic series I bass knows they don't go for over 5,000 unless they are VERY special and unique

What I would like to know is what does the "Jag" known as the "San Diego Bass Player" aka Georgio have to say about all this? I mean all this controversy & not EVEN one little measly reply lol? I prefer Aston Martins myself.
