Hi!
I've got a Orion fretless 5-string for sale.

The bass has been upgraded with a cocobolo top and the Europa electronics. It's lined and in great condition. Finish is high gloss and I've got a hardcase to the bass aswell. Not Alembic's though...
The bass lists for $5350 brand new. Serial number: 000W12468
If interested give me a bid.

Pics can be found here: http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/alembic_orion/my_photos

On the pics you can see a gold plated truss rod cover. I ordered that from a gold smith in town and it's just laying flat on top of the regular plastic cover and can be removed any time. The side that are shown are the back of the plate (that's why it's not as shiny as it could be). The other side has my name printed on it. I didn't want to scare people away from the bass thinking that it could not be taken off.

Here's one thing that might be a problem, I live in Sweden.
However, I'm going to the US the 28th of August to work aboard a cruiseship. I will depart from New York and the vessel is schedeled to be in NYC every saturday for about two month (Bermuda in between). If interested in the bass, and willing to wait a couple of month we can with ease organize a drop off or that I just send the bass either from Sweden (no wait) or from New York once there. We can work out the details later if interested.

Thanks!

Hi there. I agree - nice bass :-)

If it is 35" and a reasonable scale I would be very interested...

I'm used to being far away -- I'm in Australia!!!

Kind Regards,
Sean.

Hi Sean!

Thanks for your message! No, it's not a 35'' but I also have a Lakland US 5-string with a 35'' scale and a Warwick 6-string Thumb-bass (pre 1990) with a 34'' scale. None for sale, though...
My point is that all those B-strings are about equal in quality. Of course the sound itself differs a lot between the basses but the B-string is clear and well defined on all basses.

I've found that the 35'' scale isn't a guarantee for good B-string. Some aren't that good and other's are great, same with 34'' scale basses. Could be that there are some higher percentage of good B-strings on 35'' scales, though. Sadowsky basses, for example, never uses 35'' scales on their basses and thoses basses are considered to be one of the greatest basses that are built today, along with Alembic and a few others of course...

The bass sounds great and I'm sure that you would be happy with the sound. But as always when buying unheard gear it is a bit of a gamble. That's were the name and reputation of Alembic comes in...

Take care!
Peter

Hi Peter; I already have a custom Orion 5 string fretless, so I really don't need another one sitting around.

Hi,
I've noticed a couple of tiny dents on top of the head. I've added pictures in the gallary. Just go to:
http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/alembic_orion/my_photos

The dents are not visible from ahead or behind the bass and doesn't effect the appearence of the bass IMOP. The pictures are very accurate as to how much they are shown and also the size of the dents. As seen they are not visible on the picture of the back of the head.

/Peter
