Up for sale is my first Alembic bass. I've got some financial obligations to other family members I need to meet, and I am not playing enough these days to justify keeping most of the stuff I own so off she goes to someone who will enjoy her more than I am able to. Pics are here: http://gallery.me.com/glocke12#100386 This bass has a great quilted maple top, has no electronics or major cosmetic issues. It is a great sounding bass, with a great tone (dry, crisp and woody). Serial Number is: 97-11013 At the moment I am offering this WITHOUT the power supply or cable (and I think I have it priced accordingly). I still have a series II I will be keeping, and only one cable between the two basses. Priced @ $3800.00 shipped anywhere in the lower 48. Pickup in zip code 18930 is also available. Also, just to get business details out of the way, I will take paypal but only from senior members of the board, and only if the gift option is used. For all others personal checks, MO's or cashiers checks will work. |

Beautiful bass at a reasonable price. Might be interested but...What is the scale? I'm a small guy with relatively short fingers and can't comfortably play all those 34-35 Series basses that I see up for sale. |

I will work on more pics this weekend. Scale is 34". I have small fingers hands also, and honestly never had a problem. I will admit that the first month or two that I had it there was a learning curve in terms of getting used to the scale, but once I learned how to "wear it", I had no issues at all. |

Wow, that is my favorite Alembic shape and wood top. Not crazy for the 34" scale either but if I was on the market I would jump on it with no hesitation. Good luck with the sale! |

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BUYERS BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I find it important to share bad experiences and hope that future buyers will not experience the same as I have experienced. Mr Gregory Locke and I agreed on a price (USD 4,700 including shipping to Switzerland as well as the power supply and cord) and we had a deal, not an offer as he mentions. He cancelled because he could get a better one (see below). Where I come from a deal is a deal. Mr Locke might be a senior member but his integrity is not. Mr Locke wrote: QUOTE Hey Harm Sorry, but I just had a counter offer to yours I couldnt refuse and let the bass go...The guy offered me more than my asking price ($4600.00 for the bass alone without the power supply and cord)...it was just to good of an offer to turn down. Sorry. If I ever decide to sell my S2 I will keep you in mind. UNQUOTE Please be very careful dealing with this gentleman! |

Harm.... As I explained to you via email, the second offer came in a split second after my response to you. At the end of the day it is an offer that works out more favorable to me. Plus the bass is mine to sell to whom I want and until money changes hands I have the option to cancel any agreement. In our case no money changed hands. I am sorry you feel you were wronged, but there will be other basses. Mods, please close this thread. |

Harm, I feel bad you have come across such a negative experience so early in your experiences here at the Alembic Club. The moderators have no control over any member's level of personal integrity. |

I have no idea why you are giving Greg a hard time - no private sale is complete until payment is made and accepted. As far as I can tell no payment was made, so Greg was well within his rights to take the best offer he could, and that has no reflection on his personal integrity. The rest is all sour grapes. Disappointment is one thing, losing your dignity and whining in public is quite another. |

"Please monitor unacceptabel behaviour. We should be able to trust and deal with our senior members, shouldn't we? Please tell me if I am wrong. I will be happy to listen to your arguments. Thank you." "The moderators have no control over any member's level of personal integrity." Thank you Nigel, how nice of you to comment on a situation with which you have no familiarity. Don't want to beat a dead horse, but a few things are worth pointing out, since some think it is acceptable behavior to trash others on a public forum I feel obligated to defend myself: First and foremost: NO MONEY WAS EXCHANGED BETWEEN HARM AND MYSELF. Secondly: Harm, the second offer came in almost immediately after your offer, and to be perfectly honest it was a better offer, and I had a warmer/fuzzier feeling about conducting a business transaction with that person than I did with you. Thirdly: As I mentioned before, up until money changes hands the bass is mine to do with as I please. If I get a bad feeling about a transaction before money is exchanged, as the owner of the item for sale I have the option of changing my mind about the transaction. Furthermore, if someone offers me a better deal, and I feel more comfortable dealing with that person than you I have the option of canceling the transaction. I cant count the number of times I have tried to buy something from someone, and thought I had a deal in place only to have it not work out because the seller changed their mind about selling it, or the seller received an offer that was better than mine. In each case I was disappointed but shrugged it off knowing that eventually I would find what I was looking for elsewhere. In each case I came away understanding that the item was still the sellers to do with as he wanted, and I did not take what was a personal matter onto a public forum. Harm, once again I am sorry you feel I wronged you, but there will be other basses. (Message edited by glocke on August 20, 2011) (Message edited by glocke on August 20, 2011) |

As far I am concerned all my comments can be deleted. I tried but I can't. This forum is nothing for me. It seems that before money changes hands, people can do what the want. Agreements have no value. Different standards, I guess. So if someone is able to delete this tread or my comments, please go ahead. |

glocke - You gave Harm your word you would sell an item to Him. You broke your word over a couple of dollars. Nuff said. Nothing you have to say bothers me. It is good for others to know these things happen, even on this club's site. |

Nigel, I can only presume that you are drunkenly trolling, as you have no evidence whatsoever that anyone 'gave their word' during this transaction. In fact, of everyone on this thread, you show the lowest character with your groundless assertions and blatant stirring, and you are not even involved in the sale! Poor Nigel indeed. |

Nigel: It is easy to armchair quarterback from behind your computer screen, far removed from the situation from which you are commenting on. Since the mods seem fit to let this thread continue, and to let comments degrading to me be allowed to stay, should anyone reading this thread get the wrong impression of what is going on I feel obligated to once more state that at no point in time did any exchange of money occur between Harm and myself. Bottom line is up until money changes hands the bass is mine to do with as I please. The second offer that came in a literal split second after Harms simply works better for me, and more importantly I am personally MORE COMFORTABLE proceeding with the transaction with the person who made the second offer for a variety of reasons. Think what you will of me or the situation, it is probably easier to be critical when it is not your bass or your money involved. Here is another perspective. The person who agrees to buy, but than backs out at the last minute because they realize they can not afford it or their wife/S.O. finds out they are buying another guitar and will not let them proceed with the transaction. I've been down that road before with items I have tried to sell on this website (and I have seen this happen to others also). Buyer backed out of the transaction at the last minute....When that happened I did not take to the forum to complain and call the person out who had promised to buy whatever it is I had for sale, heck I did not even get angry even though when it happened I had spent a day or two walking around thinking that I would have payment for my item soon only to get an email or phone call at the last minute saying the buyers(s) could not go through with the sale. Furthermore, to quote our very own forum posting guidelines: "- Keep in mind that you do not know where someone else is in life. Respect that all people face good times and bad times, and try not to impose your own mood. " This is pretty self explanatory....Im not about to discuss my personal situation any further in an open forum, except to say that before criticizing someone publicly you should really, really, stop to think if you fully understand the entirety of the situation before commenting on it and talking about someones "personal integrity". Mr Paul Clifton, I assume that you are the buyer. I have no idea why you have to spit your comments here. Final note from my side: The bass was sold to me first, which was not disputed. Where I come from an agreement is what counts, not the payment. I know it also works this way in the States as, but people tend to make their own rules, whatever suits them best. I have learnt some good lessons here: some people are not te be trusted. I hope the bass will bring you what you expect from it! I will not reply to comments anymore. |

I spit where you spit, Harm. If you want to publicly vent your spleen it's your choice, but expect feedback. I live in the UK, and I deal with the Swiss all the time at work - they are the most contract-conscious, by-the-book people I know. You had no contract, you had made no payment - to pretend this deal falling through represents a breach in Swiss trading ethics is ludicrous. You are coming across as a bit strange, and I am starting to get the feeling that may have influenced who got the bass finally. We have a saying here in the UK for situations just such as these: "Diddums" |

See what happens when people think Series basses are only worth $3500 and actually believe that nonsense when they try to sell a superb bass? He probably could have got $6000 if he tried. |

My apologies for just now getting to this thread; I've been focused on a number of other things flowing through my life the past two days. But I'm reading this thread now, and there have been requests for moderator input. Yes; on an online forum like this one, we know little of the lives of those with whom we communicate; and events do unfold in unexpected and undesired ways. Postings here suggest that we have one person with pressing financial and family issues, and another who had thought they had just purchased a beautiful Alembic bass. And there are others who, given their own past experiences, offered their views of events. In my own view, I don't think it unreasonable to characterize this event as unfortunate; and I do not think it necessary to pass judgement, or "guilt", on either side here. Sometimes the decisions we make, the reactions we have, the things we write, are all just messy. And that's ok; we're human. What I think important is that each of look upon the others here with compassion, with empathy, that we each put ourselves in the other person's shoes, that we in good faith make an effort to understand the other person's position. It is what we often wish our government leaders would do; we often wish that belligerent government leaders would bring understanding and respect to the negotiation table rather than escalating hostilities and hardening positions. And if it something that we wish our governments would do, then it is something that we can endeavor to attempt in our daily lives as well. So yes, an unfortunate unfolding of events; things are often messy when human beings make their way through this world. But fortunately, neither party here suffered significant loss. And if we so choose, we can look at these events with an eye to bringing understanding and compassion for the other, not only here in this thread, but to all of our interactions with others. When we look around the world, we see civil wars, border disputes, we see hard-hearted hatred. When we look at such conflicts, we often wonder why they can't sit down at the table and work to find common ground, work for the good of all, have compassion. And we are right to ask that question; and with practice we can bring understanding and compassion in our daily activities as well. So perhaps go out and sit on the porch for a few minutes, gaze up into the sky, breath, deeply, fully, filling the body with the breathe, with that air that we all share, find a moment of peace, just being for a moment with that which we feel at the core of our being. Then go play your bass. |

Dave, as usual the wisest words to live by both within the club and as part of our lives. At least this is dealing with a musical instrument, and it is not a physical life and death matter. The emotional reaction may cause it to be that way, but all of us can use a big shot of reality check once in a while. We humans must learn how to catch up with technology and realize effective communication should be refiined, praticed and not taken for granted. To all members, I learn so much from you and your prespectives, throughout the world and I thank you and appreciate your efforts. BTW, love that cartoon! From the Simpsons right? |

Dave, wise thoughts. Back when I was looking for a series one to buy I read several posts on this site where people put their series bass up for sale only to change their mind before I could buy it. That was annoying beyond belief but I kept looking and I finally found exactly what I wanted and at the right price. Hang in there, it will happen. |
