I'm looking for a used Series II bass; preferably 4 string, A symetric body with an oil finish.

Have you checked out that Ziricote beauty at Bass NW?

I'm wondering after all the discussion about the new Alembic "K" standard shape if this Ziricote Series II is well balanced or more like a neck diver?

Unless I missed something in the Bass NW ad, that S2 appears to have a full-sized body. It doesn't appear to have the elongated top horn Alembic has made for a long time on the "traditional" Balance Point shapes. Others probably have experience they could share with how well a 34", 5 string neck balances against a full size body.

However, the K shape developed out of a different (and maybe more severe) problem. It is a design solution to balancing a 34", 5 string neck against a 3/4 standard body. There seems to be little disagreement that the smaller bodies (3/4 and small standard) don't balance against heavier, longer necks as easily as some folks would want.

If the Bass NW S2 appeals to you, I'd seek more perspective from Club members before giving up on it. It's a real looker at a pretty good price.

Well ...as far as I am concerned: Bonnie (5str full scale body Series I with Series II electronics) doesn't dive ...leave alone her neck. And as far as I may speak for my trying of Marilyn (Series II six string) she doesn't dive either.

My Series II / Mark King is a 5 string full sized body and is fairly heavy. Never ever took a dive. The Headstock on it is SIGNIFICANTLY larger than the headstock on my 4 string Series I, but it causes no balance issues whatsoever.

Peace,

James
