Looks like a bass that can't find a good home. This sounds an awful lot like one that Ed (oggydoggy) was selling a bit over a month ago.

Bob,
This bass is one in the same. If you zoom in on the truss cover you can read the word "STONEY" that is proof that it is THE bass. Though I am not sure how it got to the UK. I sold it to a guy in Maryland, humm? he must not have liked it. It is a great bass, I just got lucky and found my 75 SI, we traded and I gave him a little bit extra. This bass has been busy lately. If anyone is looking for a great sounding, playing and looking bass this is a bass for you.

Part of the question I had was whether or not this was a legitimate auction. It looks like it probably is, since the pictures aren't the same ones that you put up and the seller has a pretty solid record. Who knows what his reserve is, but the bass could be sold at a steal of a price.

Too bad the bass had to cross the ocean, if it was selling for cheap money in the US, I would be very interested.

Bob,
Keep your eye on it it is worth the money. What is your fear about it being shipped from the UK? I sold an Ernie Ball to a guy in Germany, We used ESCROW and had no prblems, shipping cost about $100. At Escrow you can stipulate very specific terms and the seller doen't get the money until you agree to keep the instrument. You can even stipulate that he will pay shipping back if it is misrepresented in any way. Just make sure that the ESCROW service is reputable, only Work through: ESCROW.COM

It really is a great bass and deserves a home in the hands of a club member.
Best Wishes,

No fear, I just hate the idea of paying the extra $100 or so in shipping. I assume the guy is going to have a "reasonable" reserve, and that some European Alembic lover will be able to get a great deal.

For what it's worth; if I recall correctly, this bass has an unusual custom neck taper; so anyone considering this bass should probably ask about the taper.

The neck is a cross between a Jazz Bass and a short scale 81 Series 1 bass. I forget the exact measurements but suffice it to say that it is narrow and it is FAST. You may have problems getting your fingers all tangled up in the strings if you're into a lot of slap/pop.

Well, he's looking for about $260 US to ship it back here, and mentioned a possible value up to 2000 UK pounds, though who knows where his reserve really is. I sincerely doubt he'll see an offer that high from North America (almost $3700 US). It does, however, suggest that this bass, that could have been had a few months ago for about $2000 US, won't be coming back here for anything like that kind of money. Heck, for $4000, you're in the ballpark for having a new one built the way you want it.

Good luck to whoever jumps on this one, it's one I wish I had jumped on when oggydoggy had it!

Im going to pick up this bass on Tuesday.. Really looking forward to owning it. Good price for a custom as well. Has everything i need including the narrow neck...i suffer with stubbyfingeritis unfortuatly. I will post some pics on the showcase thread as soon as i can.
