Just to you know that I'm selling my 1988 Elan.
If you are interested, mail me. Also for more pictures, do the same. I want to let you know first before I put it on ebay. The reason for selling is that I hardly use it. The bass is great but too much basses doesn't work for me.
Price: about 1100 euro. By the way, I'm located in the Netherlands.

Elan

Timing is everything. FUNGKE from the UK just bought an identical '89 Elan located in the US off of EBAY for $1400USD plus shipping to GBR. If he had waited he could have made a deal with you for less (i.e., the GBP is still considerably stronger than the Euro) and shipping across the channel is not as bad or expensive as shipping across the big pond.

Yeah I noticed, I didn't know he wanted to buy an Elan. If I knew... well you know what I want to say. It would have saved him some shipping costs plus customs.

Hi Guys,

Shame I didn't see this sooner Manfred otherwise there's no question I would of made you an offer on this.

I'm kinda lucky in some respects though. I work for a logistics company who are shipping the bass for me. Needless to say... I've done well out of the deal ;)

I've no regrets... there always be a better deal out there somewhere. Shame I didn't see this first though.

Good luck with selling her :-)

Best Regards, Andy

Manfred: Yup, hindsight is 20/20. An EU deal would have been perfect for the both of you. Hell, I wish I had the buying power of the Euro or, better yet, the Pound on my side! For me, and my lowly US Dollars, $1400 plus S&H for that '89 was way too much. I wanted to go $1k plus S&H, no more. For me to buy your bass (and believe me, I would love to own it) @ 1100Euros plus shipping FedEx from Holland plus duty/taxes would cost me in excess of $1600USD which is too rich for my blood. I've only paid for half (i.e., as an order deposit) of my new Custom Orion, which has yet to ship from Alembic, LOL! Considering the cost and dear nature of Alembics outside the US, your deal should be very appealing to someone in the EU. Good Luck.

Cheers,

Kevin

This bass looks very much like one which was on ebay back in April being sold by a chap in Baltimore.

Main reason I didn't go for this one was mainly because of the condition it was in. Looked a bit battered.

Glad I didn't now. Mine cost about the same, it's in mint condition and it came with the original case!

You are right about that. It was bought by somebody here in the Netherlands. I had the same thoughts when I saw it on ebay back in april. I went over to the guy who bought it and was surprised by its condition so I bought it from him. I was looking for a more jazz bass type of sound but I also wanted a white bass. But ok, red and white are almost the same :-) so why not? After a couple of weeks of fun with it, I suddenly found a Moon Larry Graham Jazz bass which I wanted so badly for years. So one of my basses has to go, but not for it's quality, sound or condition. The Elan had to be cleaned by the way. This bass has been played through the years. I've never been a collector of basses, I always use two or three basses and the other ones stay in their cases until I sell them again. It's also not a profit thing, if it is sold for about a 1000 euro, fine, ok it has costs me some money but I don't care about that part. I rather see somebody happy with it than have it stored in my room.
