Anyone interested in a MK standard, 34" scale, quilted maple top and red front LEDs? There's one out there for $2300. Ask if you want directions.

I think I provided the data to at least three people now. If it was a 32", I would have bought it. For anyone else, now that those others should each have had the opportunity to make contact if they wished to, here's the data:

It's at the Low End. That's www.thelowend.net, and find it under used basses, at least until someone serious steps up to make the buy.

So, has anyone bought this thing yet? It really looked like the kind of instrument that someone in the market would jump all over.

Bob - I just vchecked the ad and didn't see the price listed. Not that I'm going to jump at it since I already have an MK but where did you see the $2300?

Yeah, really. What a nice bass and a good price. If I had not already gone the custom build route, I'd be seriously tempted (and, at that point, still financially able) to give this bass a try. And I do prefer 32" scales over 34"! But - to each his own - I think this bass is a real opportunity for someone who can't/doesn't want to invest in new, but is looking for something special.

In fact, isn't this the kind of deal we in the club describe to newbies who can't overinvest but we want them to know they can still find the real gusto of owning an Alembic for an affordable price?

I think a lot of people are out of town or otherwise occupied. Late July-August is the worst time of year to sell used equipment.

shakeyeraz-

Gee, what do you think? The price isn't listed, so that means that I either made it up to be a jerk and fool or, wait a second... Damn, could I have asked the seller?

The scale length wasn't listed either, and if the answer I got back on that was 32", then you all would have been hearing about my new bass instead of this opportunity.

Can anyone tell me what the "Lowend" is?
Is it a real store-front, or is it an "e"Store, maybe both?
I sent them an email asking for more data on the MK bass, but they haven't responded yet.
What part of the U.S. are they located in?

They are an 'e' store that's been around for at least two years. They are a dealer for new Benavente, and handle high-end used basses. You don't see a lot of crap on their site. I tried to buy some things from him last year, but both were on hold already by the time I made contact.

From their website:

The LowEnd
2932 Altruria Road
Bartlett, TN 38134
901-377-0088
901-233-0088
lowend@midsouth.rr.com

When I send email, I usually get prompt responses with the following address info:

brian barrett [mailto:lowendmffm@yahoo.com]
Brian Barrett
Shop. 901-377-0088
Cel. 901-233-0088

I bought a bass from him before...honest seller, fair prices. If you haven't received an e-mail back from him, you should shortly...I always got a reply same-day (inquired about many many other basses :-)

We wrote, then we spoke, and now I own the bass.
It will probably be here on Monday, if he ships today. Now the anxiety will set in.

Thanks to Bob and Rob for the info on the Lowend.

Great, Ellery! Congrats! You can buy me a beer if we're ever in the same place at the same time, assuming the bass is as nice as it looks. If it isn't, then maybe I'll buy you one.

Bob, for some reason I'm not receiving the automatic posts from this discussion board or I would have seen your note yesterday. Don't know if it's my server or not, but I'm going to check.
Even if it doesn't look nice (although bad looking Alembics just don't exist) I'll buy you the beer anyway just for pointing me in the right direction.
OK now, 1 Canadian beer equals 1.32 American beers based on the current exchange rate, but due to the far lower alcohol content in American beer I'll only have to buy you half a glass.

Ellery, didn't Coors just buy one of the big Canadian beer companys? by the way I got to spend a week in Montreal in 96, what a beautiful city, (in the summer)

The pictures at the low end site are pretty nice. You could probably just look at/steal those. I love the look of the front LEDs!

Ellery

You're drinking the wrong American beer! :-) I'm in Detroit, used to think I had to go to Windsor for something as good as a Molson Brador. Now with microbreweries, there is a huge assortment of great beer here (seek out anything from Bells :-). Cheers on the bass, glad to hear things worked out with LowEnd.

The bass should arrive around noon (EST) today. First I'm going to lock my office door, then I'm going to listen to it at low volume, then I'll take a few pictures. Tonight though, I'll be going home late for dinner. Senior management has already been advised that there is a project that requires my "hands-on" attention (LOL).

David,
Coors merged with Molson, it wasn't a buy-out. They been brewing each others brands for a number of years under license, so the successfuly business relationship was already in place. It seemd only natural for the two to merge, at least from a Canadian perspective. U.S. Coors Silver Bullet: 2% Alcohol; Canadian Coors Silver Bullet: 6% Alcohol. Can you say belly up to the bar boys & girls?

At annoyingly low levels, I am blown away by the sound. Having a brass sustain block under the bridge makes a huge difference also. LED's are very cool.

Ellery,

Yummy bass! (As if you didn't already know that by now ...)

Could you make sure that you press the Enter key before adding a picture, and also after? If you don't, people have to scroll to the right to see the other pictures.

It also makes it more difficult to read all the entries on the thread, because the entire column width is widened to accommodate those pictures, and the lines of text follow the column width.

Thanks for sharing anyhoo!
