Danno, that is an awesome looking bass! 31" scale? So is it a short scale or medium scale, or in between? How much does it weigh? I'm thinking my next Alembic should be an Essence since I've heard they are fairly lightweight. Also, I want another 5-string, and I want it to be an Alembic. Furthermore, I used to think LEDs might be a bit much, but I'm having a heck of a time seeing the side dot markers on my Distillate on a dark stage. Tell me more; do you have other pics of your bass? Thanks!

Is that an absolutely huge block of brass under the bridge? Looks way over-sized to me - Cool! $2,500 seems a VERY nice price for this bass. Good luck on the sale.

Its in between the two. The block looks big but I think the chrome has something to do with it. The bathroom scale reads 10.4. Yes the price is very nice considering the options and the refinish by Alembic. I like to think I'm one of the most positive sellers here with my items. I'm not looking to get over, just pass along some pieces to those that desire them. What it was like before the black.

Whats with the angled pickups? Does it make much of a difference in the tone?

I have watched your sales over the years and I would not have any problem sending you cash on an item upfront, from what I have seen. Your prices have always been way under what I would consider market value, and I have watched you give straight-forward customer service of high quality on every sale followed. I believe your reputation here is flawless. I respect that, greatly. The time or two I did offer to buy something from you, someone had beat me by minutes, so my loss. And though I offered cash payment immediately, you held it for the first offer, another point I respect.

The block on this bass does look oversized. The blocks on all of mine seem to be 1/16th to 1/8th inch less than the bridge size front and back, and a slight hangover of about the same on the ends. The block on this bass seems significantly larger than the footprint of the bridge it holds. I do not see any reason why the block would have less depth than the others, so this would seem a healthy increase in mass under the bridge. Certainly not a deficit in my book. It certainly looks larger than the block on this essence, which seems standard sized:

It is not a big deal, just interesting to me.

Maybe I'll try to sell one of mine and see if this one remains available. After six or eight years of playing 99% four string, I've been playing a five 99% of the time for the past year or so. I guess it's time to swap...

Is that string spacing on the narrow side? It looks more like standard taper than comfort taper, especially considering the shorter scale.

As far as the bridge block goes, with the variety of custom sizes, bridge spacing options and such, I'd have to believe that even a standard sized bridge block might appear to be larger or smaller in context. I agree that it stands out way more in chrome than brass, especially on the black body. The more typical brass on a natural wood has a lot less contrast.

Personally, I'd be a lot more motivated in the original finish or if the refinish were done with the stain look like on one of Danno's Excel basses where it was purple-black with a little wood figuring still visible. But, then, I'm a wood fan, not a metal god.

As far as the angled pickups go, I would hope that the result is a more even volume across the strings. I am interested in the answer from someone who has owned this configuration.

To my knowledge, there's no better person to trade with than Danno.

From a discussion board on talkbass

The slant pickups have a similar tonal effect as a reverse-P setup. It is used to level the tone of each of the strings. Naturally, the thinner strings have less bass response. When you slant the pickup toward the neck on these strings, the pickup is placed in a position nearer the largest vibration of the strings, which will inherently contain more of the fundamental and less of the upper harmonic overtones.

Likewise, the backward angle of the thicker strings toward the bridge will allow for a less powerful fundamental and more of the harmonic overtones.

I find that the bass has a bigger sound compared to its size.

Can you show a few more pictures of this bass? I'd also like to see it with the LED's on. I've always wanted an Alembic with LED's (Great for those cave gigs.)
