Hi to all, a guy in germany offers alembic electronics on ebay. Is this the real thing ? He claims the electronics are from an Andreas Bassking Bass (which I don't know of). Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3743097496&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT |

Looks like the wiring harness from a P-type Activator package. Not much use unless you've got one Alembic pickup laying around doing nothing... The seller was probably referring to the Andreas Basking Shark bass, a distinctly German instrument distributed by Thomastik-Infeld. They have been featured in recent Bass Player ads and even a review if memory serves. |

Thanks for the info, Shawn. Actually I want to upgrade the circuit in my fretless EPIC 4 to a circut similar to the signature circuits. A tuneable Q-filter and volume for each PU is what I am looking for. I dont want to drill any extra holes to refit the original EPIC circuit later. I was just wondering if this circuit would be useable. |

One of the pots in my 94 Epic is stamped as made in Mexico, which is probably the same as what Eugen is describing. If there's an electronics parts manufacturer in Mexico that meets the Alembic standards, hey as long as Alembic are building the actual electronics package I'm sure I won't complain. It's not realistic to expect a small operation like Alembic to produce each and every part that make up the instrument, especially inexpensive stuff like resistors, pots or capacitors - which in spite of the cheapness are only cheap to produce in bulk, and in capital-intensive plants. Also I'm sure that Alembic are not using parts from the cheap end of the price range. I remember a Dutch magazine received a firm denial from Susan when they printed an interview with Stanley Clarke back in the 80s, in which he was reported to have said that the electronics in his latest Alembic were Japanese. Seems like the same ball of confusion. |
