I know the seller, he's a stand-up guy. What to do about the embroidery, well... |

Nice to hear from you, Thomas. Just dropping in, or are you thinking of hangin' for a while? If so, you might consider putting at least part of your name back in your profile - though I've continued to think of you as Poor Nigel, so either way is fine by me. Oh, I get it - you're thinking of changing your name to Trevor :-) |

Hey Bob! I missed ya. My membership should list as Intermittent Member. Life in the wasteland is ruff. I stop in every month or two and read a little. I bid on this item to remove the buy-it-now price, so it would not disappear quickly, before someone who really wanted/deserved it would miss it. I figured club members were closest to Alembic employees and endorsees, so the people here should get a chance at it. Trevor, Nigel, Thomas - what's in a name? I should pay $100 to run around with a clothes designer's name on my shirt? Naw. What to do about the embroidery, indeed. I would pay the $100 for the logo on the back, but I would not cut the jacket up to get it. Best it goes to someone who can wear it. Maybe these should be offered to club members. The company is expanding their line of logo items, and this would be a dandy one. Note that if this had been a size a 6'2" person could wear, I would not have been so altruistic and would have used the buy-it-now option to grab it at $250. Well, back to obscurity and minor deeds of evil, like talking eBayers into keeping their basses, rather then selling them on a whim or temporary hard times. Have fun and take care. Trevor - maybe . . . |

Well, the local law enforcement knows him (Shawn) and he is a nice guy, evidenced by the reply to the e-mail I sent him: "Hola to the Alembic club!! I miss Santa Rosa!" Therefore, I have ascertained that it is most likely safe to bid on this person's auction. eBay is becoming a very buyer beware place! Therefore, it is nice to feel safe on there every once in a while. OK, OK. Now I am off to obscurity . . . Trevor (I am beginning to like this name!) While I am changing the subject, here is an interesting picture to look at. I consider it just one of the next best things to an Alembic. Actually, I am being nice. I personally consider it THE next best thing to an Alembic, but mainly because I paid a small bucket of money for it. Let the argument begin - I mean logical comparison . . .

"Well, the local law enforcement knows him" Yeah, you could say that (laughing). I hate suspense--what is that thing? |

Just something I found laying around in my back yard. I seem to have a real addiction to basses made in the mid-eighties. |

It must be the early Tobias that's standing next to a 20th Anniversary and a Series II here http://alembic.com/club/messages/394/7183.html --- I especially like the backside of this one. |

You are correct. I believe it is an '85, but I do not really know. SN 635. There is a person trying to sell a lessor model (pre-Gibson six string Classic) on eBay for $5,500. Personally, I think he is nutz, but if it sells, I am nutz and the chances of this one hitting the auction block is over 99%. I doubt the Bunny Bass Tobias starting at less than half that price will sell. These are all excellent basses, but they are not Alembic Series equals. They are just the next best thing to an Alembic, in my opinion. Then again, variety is spice, eh?! Last call on the pictures. Hope ya had fun looking. Ya'll have fun and take care. I have to get back to having fun trying to win an unwinable argument with the feds. Such warm, patient, understanding filers of paper and lives. Someone's gotta do it . . . Later. |
