http://www.ebay.com/itm/160735671941?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Saw these tonight. I'm not sure with only 2 pots. Is this set original or something rigged together. If they are the real deal, would be cool in my MIM Jazz Fretless (especially if the price didn't climb). Stephen |

A single split P pickup would only have two pots; volume and filter. Your jazz bass has a single split P? |

Ahhh - I thought it was two pickups - not a P-bass style P-U split style. Oh well - probably will make someone happy. Thanks |

Just curious - how "different" would these be on a P-bass? My son's American P Bass sounds great now. Anyone have experience w/ these? I might be interested if I can get them for $100 (since no one has bid yet). Steve |

I have been watching a few sets of Alembic P bass and J bass sets on eBay over the years. I had my eye on that Jazz bass set that went recently for my fretless. I think from watching past sales it will sell eventually for more then $100 ; more to the tune of about $250 -$300 aprox. There are many bidders that wait for the last few moments and hang out like "Crows In The Trees" waiting to Swoop down and grab their prize like a flash of lightning and then fly away back into the woods with it ,___LOL_____! Towards last few seconds it could be a feeding frenzy !!!! I have seen a few auctions end that way on eBay and at some local auction houses that I have attended. It can be exciting and can most certainly get your adrenaline pumping. Such is the "cheap thrill " that could cost you more then you intended,____ if you make sport of it. |

The great thing with Activators is you get the Alembic low-pass filter, so you get a wider range of sounds than a regular passive P-Bass pickup. They may require some routing, since you have to fit a battery in there. I have a set in my early-'70s Telecaster Bass - here's a thread about it. This track is referenced in the thread - I have flats on the bass but with the filter all the way open it still sounds pretty bright: 8B4X4 Here's another track, this one is played with pick, I adjust the filter gradually through the track so it starts with some bark, but gets rounder as the track goes on: ostronato If your son's bass sounds good, then I don't think you should get caught up in modding it, but if you do decide to go with Activators then I don't think you'll be disappointed! I actually bought a P-J set for my recently purchased P-bass... |

Sounding great Harry. I hope that those recently acquired P-J activators work out swell . |
