I see on Guitar Center's website in Southfield, Michigan that they have an F2B for $399. Of course, I live nowhere near there, but maybe someone here does!

I think the Southfield GC has me on speed-dial.

I'm out of the rackmount club, having sold two F-1X boxes and 2 power amps recently.

Malthumb, you're in Michigan? I thought I was the only one! Maybe we can meet sometime. I don't know anyone that even owns an Alembic besides myself. Get a hold of me through the email or here it's the same. Who would have thunk?

Well whos here from the dirty mitten?!? I did meet a Dr. In Ann Arbor who had an essence, other than that I'm the only person (not famous) that I know of that has an Alembic. Is there even a Alembic dealer close to us??? Btw I'm in Jackson if anyone cares.

Heck yea, Bill! I was actually closer to you about 7 years ago I lived in Ann Arbor. But I only had my Elan 5 then, so I obviously wasn't as cool then lol! I creeped on your profile you have a MK bass! Those are sooo cool! I'm not sure but I think my Europa 4 might have the same electronics.... I don't really know the particulars of each model though. So how many of us are there in this area 4? 5? .... I bet there's like 10 on each street in California! I read somewhere there was or is "get togethers" so we can share our nerdiness/bass snobbiness of Alembics : ) I'd go if it weren't too far. If anyone wants to try to hang I'm down to try it!

Wookie,
Its funny you mentioned the head count. I just bought a Europa 5 from a guy on Craigslist who had it for about 10 years. He lives in Canton. It appears our Alembic owners in Michigan are in hiding. lol
There may be a gathering in Chicago soon. If so, I plan on going. I have to look around here to see if Ii can see some pictures of your Europa.

Oh, I'm not saying anything is wrong with that Bill... I really like the tonal quality that I get with my F-1X and I only started using my first rack unit sometime last year. So don't let that stop you from looking at an F-2B, maybe a rack is just what you need ;)

How did you find a Europa 5er?!? Whenever I even try to ask a question about one that pops-up its already sold! I don't know if there are pics of my Europa here. I just got a 6 that is so new (to me) that I don't have it yet! Once it gets here ill post pics but until then guys here's my Alembic stuff I have my Elan 5 (trans red, pj chrome), spoiler 4 (natural, maple top, chrome), Europa 4 (black, maple, black hardware, signature electronics, red LEDs) and the new one Europa 6 (maple top, natural finish, gold hardware) that I totally am going to refinish into an ocean burst! I've been in love with that burst since I started playing and the 6 is my dream bass, so it's going to happen! Also one more thing since there are 3 other people that play Alembics in Michigan tell me what band(s) you play in i'll go see your band! I used to play my Alembic at Harpos when I was a kid lol(looking back I realize how stupid that was)! Also what kind of amps and stuff are you guys using?

Lloyd,
I could not believe my eyes when I saw the CL post. The previous owner is a guitarist and sound engineer who said he barely played the bass. I had been looking for one for over a year.

The band I play with is called the Surgeon Generals. Here’s a post about the experience so far.
http://alembic.com/club/messages/394/123928.html?1331247978
We plan on playing at the Timber Wolf's open mike on the 20th of April.

I use a small portable rig: MarkBass combo 210 and a 115 for the bottom. Easy to transport and can handle small to medium venues.
Please post pictures of your nice Alembics collection when you get a chance. I can't wait to see the ocean burst Europa 6 when its finished.

Bill, I read your link, super cool! I'm going to make some time to drive like 2 hours to see you guys! I'm pumped. When I was speaking to Joe (the guy I just got the 6st from) I told him there's no Alembic dealer in Michigan and I don't even know anyone that has 1 Alembic. He said "there's gotta be someone in detroit that has something" still if you have 2 and I'm about have 4 plus malthumb has 2(?) I think, that's 8 in the whole state! I'll be bold enough to say we are elite snobs lol! But does anyone have a series bass???? I've never been in the same room with one of those..... Maybe someday I'll have S2 6 with the MK body style : )

Also Bill I don't know where the timber wolf is. I'd be coming from 94 west I'd guess. You dont play through a processor or pedal(s)? And I'm so excited to get this Europa 6 I'll post pics (assuming I can figure it out) of that before and after the dye job, along with my other 3 Alembic babies as well : )

Lloyd,
It would be awesome if you could make it to the open mike. Here's a link to their site: http://www.timberwolftavern.com/

I ran across this video yesterday on the Detroit Bass Player's Site.
It is an interview with a local bass player who owns a 6 string Alembic. It looks likes an Epic: http://detroitbassplayers.com/forum/index.php?topic=18.0

If you get a chance to make it, bring one of your basses and sit in on a jam session.

BTW, I have not been playing long enough(less than 2 years) to appreciate proceessors and pedals.

He mentions you in that video too btw! I'll come to your show is there a particular bass you'd like me to bring for you to see if you haven't seen them all by now? Yea I'm going to your show Bill I'm trying to get a buddy to go so I don't get jumped alone in Detriot.... I'll have a friend lol! And Bill if you want to be cool you could bring your other bass too :-) I'm such a gear freak... I think I have like 12 basses or something.... Us that necessary? .... I think so.

Bill, you are not the only guy that plays Alembics through MarkBass combos in Farmington. My band, Stroller Goat, plays at the Basement Burger Bar in Farmington. I usually use a MarkBass 102P combo and a MarkBass 102P extension cabinet.

To be totally honest, I don't ALWAYS play Alembic at that particular gig, but I do sometimes.

And Wookie.....I started a thread here when that Europa went up for sale.

But Alembic meets MarkBass for the win!

Wookie,

I do have two and they are both Series basses. A 4-string Series I and a 5-string Mark King with Series II electronics. This picture was taken almost 12 years ago (yikes!) on the day I received the 5-string and the t-shirt. Ironically, only two or three days after I received the 4 string. What a week!

When is your next gig. I would love to come hear you play.
Do you use pedals and/or boxes?
BTW. If ever you feel like parting with that 5ver I want first dibs

What dude? How do you get 2 basses In a week?!? Basses that I've never even seen?? Are you the most interesting man alive? You know the guy that say "I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer dos Equis"!!!! Do you play shows? I'll make the drive twice and take 2 jumpings to see you and Bill! I'll be the poor guy jammin' Europa's from Jacktown/prison city! And what's up with all this mark bass amp stuff??? I just saw Randy Jackson endorses them. The only thing I heard about them was their customer service is bad. Apparently I live under a rock called Jackson county but I've been playin Alembic since I was like 16 or 17! Help get me up to speed fella's! Stay thirsty, my friends!

Wookie,

How to get two super sweet basses in one week?

I put in my order for the 5-string sometime in 1999 and died a slow death as it progressed through the shop. This was before Alembic started posting in-progress pictures on the club website.

As it was nearing completion, I found out one of my favorite artists ever was auctioning off a lot of his gear, so I made him a pre-auction offer for the 4 string. Obviously he accepted.

They both arrived the same week in June 2000

Are you serious? One of your favs sells you his bass!!!!! I would seriously need at minimum a sextuplet bypass if Jason Newsted would just trade all of my basses for one of his! You sir are very very lucky in deed. So Mr. James do play out with those fancy shmancy basses? I would go just to hear what a series bass sounds like. As long as this thread is totally jacked, I know I said the Europa 6 was the last bass but I might trade other stuff for a fretless Orion 5. I've never heard or seen one of these either. Can. Someone help me out, please??

Wookie,

For me, the thing with MarkBass is incredible power and tone out of lightweight products. Interesting comment from a guy who plays a 13-1/2 lb bass with no complaints.

But I did get tired of lugging my 80 lb rack, 85 lb SWR Triad (sometimes x 2) and 45 lb Goliath Jr (sometimes x 2) to every venue. Sometimes up and down stairs.

Now when I go to gigs, I can strap a bass or two on my back, carry my 102P combo in one hand and my extension cab in the other hand and call it a day.

And still pump out up to 500W of low end.

James,
Thanks for the input. I just saw a SWR triad for the first time and thought hmmm... that looks kinda cool. I used to have the whole ampeg metal god rig 8x10's with the 70's head and my Elan I thought I was top of the poop heap. I weighed 150 lbs and the cab weighed 165lbs and the head weighed 85 lbs. no fun is what that equals. anyway after I realized that I was better than everyone else in the band (that's not ego, they were really bad) I traded the bottom for a Carvin cyclops combo it sounds real good it has 1x15, 2x8 a horn and 2 ports I think it's 300 or 600 watts. it doesn't matter because the talent pool is a puddle around here so it makes a real loud practice amp. my wife (fiance) and daughter just love when they are trying to watch T.V. HA HA HA! So James are you going to Bills show? it'd be cool to meet. I really want to dig in deep into the bass I was hopeing you guys could help me out.

I had to parse back through the thread to see what show you were talking about. I assume you mean the April 20th open mic at Timber Wolf?

If so, I have a gig that night at Basement Burger Bar in Farmington. We have a standing 3rd Friday thing there.

Thanks Bill! This is obviously without the red Elan 5. After hearing the Europa 6 I want to see if I can somehow make the Élan sound like that. I love the Élan , hate the B string. So some type of surgery must be done. I'd hate to change pickups or electronics brands but after having it for almost 20 years something has got to give.

Bill,

If you like angus burgers, you will not be disappointed. The wings are excellent, too (I'm from Buffalo and therefore an authority on all wing-related matters).

That's about as far as I've gotten through the menu, 'cause when you get right down to it, burgers and wings are pretty much all a guy needs.

Damn nice bass you have there too, good sir. maybe there are more people that play alembic than I know. I don't play out anymore since I'm trying to finish school. Even when I did play out, people didn't even know what I was playing (the Elan). the few people that did comment thought that it was a Yamaha lol! but then again I was playing metal, and it wasn't even talented then. and before everyone jumps on and starts bashing metal; I agree at least 99.99% of metal is garbage. but in the tiny 100th of a percent there is truly talented and beautiful music and musicians. now getting them together and keeping egos in check.... I degress to finishing school and recording myself LOL :-) but now I'm a grown up with a real life. I have always liked all kinds of music so if Mr. Ganque you have a show or know of any actual "good" music in the dirty mitten let me know I'll give it a shot. I've been to only a handful of shows around here since I stopped playing out and it's pretty @#$#@@& aweful. I don't see how they can be so bad both as a band and as individual musicians, keep doing it for years/decades, wear the funny clothes, and still think they are the best musician/band ever?! Also for the record I don't think that I'm great either, I'm just me. I'd say on a scale of 1-10 musically (10 being the best) I'm probably a 4. someday I'll have more time to do two hand tapping and whatever but right now I practice about an hour a week if that. Kids, wife, school, life, all come before me. I hope to hear from you guys and maybe we can go check out some "good" music.
