Back in 2007 I happened upon a late-'60s Guild Starfire I bass at my then-local Guitar Center. I was smitten - Dark Star pickups were all the rage, and I knew of the Guild Bi-Sonic background to Alembic. So I snagged it! It is a beautiful bass, not mint, but in pretty amazing shape for an instrument from the '60s. My un-scientific observation is that it was gigged pretty hard and then put under the bed at some point. They also had a Starfire guitar (not sure which variant) from the same seller.

So, I still have the bass (with original case) and it is great, but I just don't play it and don't see myself using it that much. Part of me feels like I should keep it as an investment piece - keep it "under the bed" for another 20-30 years - but it should really go to someone that will love it and play it!

SO - I would like to get $1500 for it. We can work out shipping later. If you will be at the upcoming Alembic Gathering in the SF Bay Area 4/22/12, you can have it for $1300. Email me at the email address in my profile. Thanks for looking!

(I will post pics in separate posts)

Here are a couple of pics of the front:

There is some wear by the treble-side finger rest. There is also some wear on the back - don't have any pictures yet, will post upon request.

30.75" as are all Starfires. Nice bass by the way. Looks like a "66 or early 67'. Got a few sittin' around also.

What smokinbear said! Between the serial number, type of bridge, etc., I came up with '67.

Very comfortable bass to play - the neck is great. I love short scales!

I tell you what, throw in a set of Series II electronics and you'll never want to sell it! :-)

That's pretty much what mine looked like when I got it, except it came without a case, wrapped in newspaper, in a cardboard box on a brown truck.
