Love takes time! About a day or two for Ed (shipped the 20th this afternoon), and then about a week later for me. He needed to use his Series I at a function Wednesday, so . . . |

Well, I guess you 'just' heard your bass was shipped and will be there tomorrow or the next day. I will e-mail you the tracking number soon! We both posted at the same minute - is that cool?! |

Anyone familiar with using FedEx from an account? When do they give you the tracking number? Do they send it to your listed e-mail account, or should it list in your FedEx account? I would assume in the account, but when? |

Step 1. Find Bass. Step 2. Buy Bass. Step 3. Get Bass. |

Ed - Doh! Found and sent. Hendrik - A true Alembician (Addicts that they are) is always at Step 1., regardless of how many he or she may already have. Part of the fun is in the looking and finding. Opps! Forgot Step 4. Play Bass. The most important step. |

Aplogies for a sociological interlude but this last post has made me wonder, what is the proportion of men/women owning Alembics? With the honourable exceptions of Susan and Mica, this seems quite a male dominated club. I'd like to hope that I'm wrong but....? |

No ifs and buts about it, this is a male dominated club. Just one bassist and two guitarists all of the female persuasion, that I know of. - Uh, could Courtney also be a man's name? (Message edited by adriaan on October 05, 2004) |

Yes, some statistics like gender, age, country etc. about this club would be interesting! Harald |

Nigel If you did your shipment on line it should have printed out an airbill..there's your tracking number. If it was done on an 'airbill' you should have recieved a 'pink' copy. Gary..the Federale |

Thomas: I can imagine that! I'm located in Germany it's not that easy to find an Alembic overhere...so it`s not just fun it's a little bit of "work". BTW: Nobody an Alembic four string (Essence/Distillate/Elan/...) for sale...? At least I reached the fourth step . |

There are plenty for sale! Start a new thread and describe what you're looking for and your price range, and we will help you find it. I know of a decent looking Elan that no one seems interested in. If you buy one from the US, what's it going to cost to get it over to you?

Such statistics may be interesting, but I believe it worth consideration that some members may wish to keep such information private. Within the context of this particular group it seems to me entirely reasonable that some people may wish to be seen as nothing more than fellow Alembic owners. |

Alright! I asked a couple of sellers at ebay what shipping to Germany would cost: Some people said 200$ some said 300$ and a couple said even 500$. You have to include insurance & duty... I already started a thread. If any body wants to sell an Alembic feel free to send me a mail. tigmatebratak@web.de Thanks!!!

I have wondered about the 'duty' that overseas buyers have to pay. Do you have to pay duty on a gift? Can't a friend send it to you as a gift and not have to go through some form of taxation? Not trying to get anyone jailed, just curious. I would like to see as many players on the planet get to own an Alembic as is possible. The more the merrier in my opinion (Note, I almost said bass players, omitting the ultra-high piccolo bass players again - Old dog learns new trick). The "Doh! Found and sent." above was for when I found and sent Ed the tracking number. Thanks for the help though. |

Brother Thomas is right. The "gift" trick is applied by lots of my friends. Although ...there are not tax controllers that accept a "gift" of 3K . Don't forget that every Alembic(or other fine brand)oversea buyer wants to take the "jump" without insurance. And for an insurance you better take the "full-price-new-in-case-you-loose-the-thing" price. BTW: US/EU transport UPS is indeed depending! Insured value, packaging technique, volume of end package and weight, etc ...etc ...but I would consider 280€ a fair price (about 310 $). PS: you better let the guitar pack by the people at FEDEX or UPS or DHL. It seems there are for example UPS-stores in the US. It helps with insurance too!!!! Paul the bad one |

I bought a Chapman Stick last year and shipping costs from USA to Germany were 185 $, sent via UPS. I think shipping a bass would be about the same amount. In Germany we to have to pay 16 % import taxes and about 4 % customs duty for importing instruments. Therefore you can calculate plus 20 % additional costs of the total price (instument+shipping). So, is it possible to save 20% when you send something as a gift? Is this legal? Would be very interesting...But as Paul said it could be very difficult to explain a gift of 3K. |
