Hello all,

I'm considering doing something I have never done before - sell an instrument. And that instrument just happens to be one of my cherished
Alembics.

I have 6 Alembics and this one gets the least amount of play time. Reasons: I mostly play 6-string and higher and I prefer the sound of a mahogany-bodied Alembic. This is the only maple-bodied Alembic I have. I mainly bought it to be a companion to my Elan 6 which is my baby!

I purchased this bass in 2007 from an Ebayer and it was and still is in VG condition. Not a museum piece but with some honest player's wear.

The only disclaimer I feel compelled to mention is that she is a little temperamental with the season changes. Sometimes the E string around the 3rd fret buzzes. It happens in warm and cold weather. A trip to my local luthier always rectifies the situation and then I'm good to go until we have another radical season change.

Now, of my fleet of 6 Alembics, this one is the most temperamental. My other ones need some TLC from time to time but it's always something I can do myself. This is the one where I call in the pros. Not sure why this is. Perhaps a spa day over at the mothership is all she needs.

So...my primary motivation for selling her is to fund some studio gear that's on its way. Truthfully, I'm not even sure I can go through with it - I buy my instruments to keep for life and I never thought I'd sell one, especially an Alembic. But the reality is that she deserves to be played more and my others always get the love. So I'm floating this out there to see if there's any interest from the club. I will add some more detailed photos later but here's a full frontal shot.

As for price, I'm thinking $1800+ shipping. That seems to be fair based on some other Elans with a trans finish and matching headstock I've seen which have sold for considerably more.

Details:

1994 Elan 4 string
34" scale
Quilted maple top over maple body
Transparent blue finish
Matching headstock
Dual humbuckers
Q switch (Very wide response. I've found that the response tends to vary a bit from bass to bass and this one just seems to have a wider range than my others)
Includes non-original Music Man HSC.
Comes with gold Shaller straplocks installed.

Post any questions or email me at dave@davedemarco.com

Thanks

Also in the spirit of full disclosure, here's a post I made back in 2008 about this bass:

http://alembic.com/club/messages/394/50038.html

At the time I posted this, I had had the bass about 8 months and when I began having issues with it, I came on the forum and found lots of posts from other members who had similar issues with their basses.

I have not taken up Mica's offer to send the bass in for a heat treatment since my luthier has been able to make it playable with regular servicing. If I end up keeping it, that's just what I may do.

Cheers,

D
