I have a mid 80's (so I have been told) Spoiler up for sale. It has been modified, there is a rout on the right hand side of the bridge PU, and also a rout on the back for another 9V battery compartment. The original electronics are not in it, EMG 35 active's are. Also EMG active pre amp with V,V,B,T. There are some scratches, gouges and finish cracks, but over all pretty presentable. Lacquer is peeling from the bridge and string saddle. A few screws missing from the back cover. The dual truss rod acts as it should, the adjustable nut functions fine as well. Frets are slightly worn but I can hear no detriment from it. OK, all the bad and details out of the way. This bass is still all Alembic. It plays like absolute butter, action will go as low as you want it. Does the thumb and slap exceedingly well, and the bridge PU gets an extreme bite when dialed up by itself. Very even very smooth all the way up the fretboard. If you can get past it's imperfections what is left is an awesome player. Just a cheap gig bag for this no case. Hit me with questions and more pics of any areas of interest.

This was my first Alembic. I'm talking to the current owner and considering buying it back.

Please do so, if only to keep it out of the hands of anyone else who would do such despicable things to an Alembic (though I have no idea as to whether it was the current owner or a previous one who undertook these modifications). Modification of an Alembic in this manner should be considered the equivalent of child abuse. Current Alembic owners should be considered mandatory reporters, authorities notified, and a more hospitable home found for the poor thing.

I agree with hammer. I was pumped when I saw it, then my heart sank when I really saw it!

Tragic!

To kungfu.....glad I was instrumental (no pun) in possibly reconnecting you with a "lost love".
On the plus side, the mods look like they were well done, albeit sacriledge (imo).

Well, in the current owners defense, when he got it the bass had the original pickups and Activator guts I installed to replace the homemade preamp that was in the bass when I got it. The Activators were faulty and he didn't immediately understand the filter concept, so he swapped them out.
