Here is the build card, and Mica has confirmed that it has had the upgrade ... 77621: top and back: Walnut core: Mahogany neck: Maple/Beech/Purpleheart fingerboard: Rosewood peghead veneers: Zebrawood scale: 32" medium inlays: mother of pearl The neck is very stable, and it plays great. As you can see in the pictures, the finish has some checking; this is not unusual for instruments from this period, and personally I think it looks fine. This bass sounds great; it's a warm sounding bass. And having had the upgrade, it's very quiet on stage and in recording. Includes the classic blue case in good condition, and I'm sure I can find a power supply and cable if you need them. After I uploaded the initial set of pictures, I decided to try to get some better shots of the scarf joint, and have added these new shots. Interestingly, I noticed that the top laminate on the back of the peghead is lifting a little at the edge; I've shown that in the first of the closeup pics. My guess is that this will need to be glued and clamped. I'm not a luthier, and I don't feel comfortable doing this; so I'm leaving it as is. Some of you would prefer to have Alembic do this type of thing, while others are comfortable doing it themselves or have their own local luthiers that they like; so me leaving it alone seems best for now. In looking closely at the scarf joint, while most of the joint looks fine with no separation, there does appear to be a little separation which I've tried to show in the pics. My guess is that the peghead must have been bumped (sometime before I purchased the bass) with just enough force to produce the cracks in the finish and some separation at the scarf joint. The separation does not appear to come through the finish. I personally don't think it's anything to be concerned about it; I've owned the bass for over seven years and not had a problem with it. But I'll ask Mica to take a look at the pics and give her opinion about these issues.                  I have an idea of what I think this bass is worth. It plays very easily, sounds great, is in what I think is very good condition (other than needing that peghead lam glued and clamped), and has had the electronics upgrade. If you think that this is a bass you would like to own, please send me an email with an offer of what it would be worth to you to own it, plus shipping. I have sold a few basses and have boxed them for shipment with no problems, but if you prefer to pay to have someone else do it, that's certainly ok with me. If you already have a power supply and cable, you can state in your offer that you don't need them and that your offer is for the bass and case only; plus shipping. Shipping is FOB; once I drop it off at UPS or Fedex (your choice), it is no longer my responsibility (note UPS is probably preferable for insurance reasons). If you prefer to pay by paypal, then the associated fees that I would incur will be a consideration when I look at the amount of your offer. If you are a club member, I'll be happy to accept a check. Try to open the gap on the back of the peghead by pressing the peghead forward, if it doesn't budge, you're looking at fractures in the finish, which you can leave alone or patch with superglue to keep the finish in place. If you can get it to peek open a little, then a typical repair for this would run about $75 plus shipping. It won't be invisible, but it will be smooth to the touch and strong. I like the Zebrawood interior veneer on the back of the peghead - that's pretty cool looking (tucks away for future reference). | ||
